In 2014, before vaccination programs had reached her rural enclave in Ethiopia, Asli tragically lost three of her young children – two to diarrhoea and one to measles. “We didn’t have vaccinations – there was no one to help them,” she tells us. “Before we had vaccinations, I used to worry about giving my children milk, food and water.” Thanks to collaborations with local actors, immunisation programs are now underway where Asli lives – a move that has brought her family great relief: “Now I feel happier for my children and I see the new, better health on their faces.” Our partnership with Save the Children UK has already transformed childhood access to immunisation in Nigeria and Ethiopia – but there is much more we can do. Here, Dr Teddy Gebremichael, Save the Children's Child Survival Advisor for the region, explains what needs to happen – and who we’re looking to empower – to bring new innovations to life: https://gsk.to/3YUxzZB

“Covid was like a tsunami, it hit massively. It hit violently, and it washed over the world, but it will pass,” says Rob Bower, our former commercial lead on antibiotics. “AMR is like rising sea levels. It will keep rising. It will not stop, and suddenly we’ll be standing there with water around our knees.” The introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s extended people’s lives by an estimated 20 years. But if these medicines stop working, routine surgeries and cancer treatments, which can weaken the body’s ability to respond to infections, could become too risky. So, what do we need to do to stop this from happening? Here, experts from Dame Sally Davies to CARBX executive director Kevin Outterson, weigh in: https://lnkd.in/ertRtVgG

‘I began my career in healthcare more than 35 years ago, and I’ve never seen such huge potential for progress in the fight to prevent and treat disease as we have today,’ says Dr Chris Austin, the Senior Vice President of Research Technologies. And he’s right. Advances in data technology have allowed our scientists to make incredible new insights and drive forward drug discoveries. To continue to have real world impact, however, we need to ensure that our data is of the highest quality, accessible and always used with care. Read Dr Austin’s article here to find out why data scale, quality and responsibility is so important: https://gsk.to/3Aeinfl

There's a misconception that the fight against HIV/AIDS is over - it's not. Listen to our CEO, Emma Walmsley, speak about how through the power of prevention and partnership, we're making sure our innovation reaches the people that need it most 👇

It is overwhelmingly clear that together we can end the HIV/AIDS epidemic - we have the science, the tech, the talent, and the partnerships. And what really stays with me from this inspiring chat with Mitchell Warren activist and executive director at AVAC is that when we put people and their needs first – innovation happens. This is how we’ll get ahead of HIV together, for good.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, and despite the successful strides made in scientific discoveries to improve the survival rates, patients remain limited in their treatment options. Our scientists are among those developing new treatments with the aid of AI and machine learning. One novel approach being used is testing ‘digital biological twins’ to gain insight into an individual patients’ biology. It involves building personalised tumour-derived organ-like structures called ‘organoids’ that can be used to test how different treatment combinations are likely to work in individual patients. Find out more about how we’re using advanced technology to beat cancer here: https://lnkd.in/d6RhwH-j

With the help of robots and artificial intelligence, our manufacturing sites are becoming smarter so medicines and vaccines can reach patients faster. Advanced technology increases production capacity by 25-40% and reduces lead times by 15-20%, allowing more batches of medicines to be made. Digitalisation detects early signs of fault, ensuring no crucial steps are missed and reducing human error. Plus, essential resources are reduced, making the whole process greener. We’re passionate about helping more patients enjoy a better quality of life. Did you know an estimated 315 million people around the world are thought to be affected by COPD? That’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. And this figure is expected to increase by 2040. Recognising the symptoms and opening up to a healthcare professional about your breathing difficulties can mean you get help to prevent them worsening. #COPD #AheadTogether
