Shahinur Rahman from GuarantCo and Luke Foley from The Private Infrastructure Development Group joined a workshop yesterday hosted by Deloitte and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Energy Resources Power Sector Programme. It explored the financing of clean energy projects in South and Southeast Asia. The work that GuarantCo and PIDG are doing across the region was revered during the workshop and illustrated how other industry players can collaborate to make the world a more inclusive and liveable place. Dongyoung KIM, Investment Director of GuarantCo, part of The Private Infrastructure Development Group, joined a high-level panel of key stakeholders at the Global Infrastructure Facility Advisory Council held on Monday in Washington DC. The topic for discussion was “Addressing FX Risk in the Development of Bankable Infrastructure Project Pipelines.” During the session, Dongyoung highlighted how GuarantCo’s bespoke guarantee products help mitigate project risks, including FX risks, in emerging markets and developing economies. He also outlined The Private Infrastructure Development Group strategy for using credit enhancement facilities to attract and scale-up private capital to bridge the infrastructure funding gap. The session built on the GIF’s upcoming report, Addressing Exchange Rate Risk in Infrastructure Projects, prepared under Brazil’s G20 Infrastructure Working Group Presidency, in partnership with the International Monetary Fund. The meeting, co-chaired by HSBC’s Christian Déseglise and The World Bank Vice President for Infrastructure Guangzhe Chen, brought together public and private sector advisory, funding, and technical partners including governments, multilateral development banks and development finance institutions. #impactinvestment #SDGs #sustainableinfrastructure

This important milestone was recognised with a Bell Ringing Ceremony at Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC. GuarantCo and colleagues across The Private Infrastructure Development Group, including InfraCo Africa, #PIDGTA and the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund, have worked closely with Acorn Holdings Limited over the past five years to help realise its vision for green, safe and affordable student accommodation in Nairobi. From the outset, Acorn’s programme has aligned closely with the mission of PIDG to finance projects aligned with the United Nations’ #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. The construction of the environmentally friendly student accommodation meets international green building standards for water, energy and construction materials, ensuring lower operation costs and a low-carbon impact over the long term. Our valued partnership with K-Electric began five years ago when GuarantCo and Standard Chartered provided a loan to support aerial bundled cable roll-out and smart grid solutions in Karachi, Pakistan. This project with K-Electric led to many other initiatives including the Roshni Baji training programme for the first female electricians in Pakistan to promote electrical safety.
