We’re one of the UK’s leading disability charities. We’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose.

About us

We are Guide Dogs. And we’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose. Children and adults. Friends and family. Whoever you are, our expert staff, volunteers and life-changing dogs are here to help you: Live actively. Our people and dogs can help you get out and about with confidence, going wherever school, work, or play takes you – and knowing that your sight loss won’t hold you back. Live independently. The advice and skills we provide will give you the freedom to live life on your own terms, in your own way, so that you can achieve your hopes and ambitions, and do all the things that make you… you. Live well. Our experience and understanding can help you through the emotional challenges of sight loss as well as the practical ones, introducing you to an inspiring community of people with similar experiences and giving you the support you need to be your best self. We have an amazing community of over 15,500 volunteers across the UK. We’re also almost entirely reliant on donations to continue our life-changing work. There are many different ways you can support us, find out more at guidedogs.org.uk.

  • Love dogs but can't commit full-time? Become a Training Dog Fosterer! “We look after the foster dogs evenings and weekends. During the week you drop them off and collect them from ‘school’ like you would with children. When they get home, they are mentally tired so we get quality time for cuddles and playing. At the weekends, we love taking them to the New Forest for free runs. They go on long journeys with us; to hotels, to the shops; to church; to visit family. The dogs are treated as part of the family and given a safe, loving home whilst they are with us.” Play a crucial role in their journey to transforming lives. • Summer may be coming to an end, but there are still plenty of ways to have fun with your furry friend - despite the rainy weather! ☔ Some rainy day activities could include... 🌧️ Playing hide and seek by putting your dog's toys in different places in the house, and encouraging them to find them 🌧️Using a snuffle mat to hide your dog's food for them to sniff and dig out 🌧️Making a homemade tug-toy by braiding old t-shirts or fabric together for your dog to play with Head to our website for ideas of fun and enriching activities for your dog 👉 https://bit.ly/3y7Wc6p [Visual description: Image shows a pale golden retriever stood in a hallway of a home with her owner kneeling next to her. • Interesting point on Channel 4's The Last Leg yesterday - This year Channel 4 have taught their Paralympics commentators to be more descriptive, adding further context to what is happening on screen. The difference between "Boy swimming in swimming pool" vs "Young swimmer Archie competing in a swimming gala. Archie is wearing a swimming cap and goggles; his head is visible above the water as he powers through it in a marked pool lane" This is a positive step forward to ensure inclusivity and content enjoyment for people with a visual impairment. Providing that extra layer of context to what is taking place on screen, helping to build a full verbal picture. [Visual description: Young swimmer Archie competing in a swimming gala.
