This year at Halfords, we’re thrilled to have committed to our greatest asset - our people! We're kicking things up a notch by rolling out multiple development opportunities across the Group. Last week, we celebrated a major milestone with the launch of our brand new Leadership & Management Apprenticeships! In an engaging in-person event, 38 of our colleagues came together to take their first steps on this journey. For the first time ever, we're proud to introduce a Group-wide Apprenticeship programme in partnership with BPP, welcoming participants from Retail, Autocentres, Finance, and IT. Our inaugural cohort are enrolling onto either the Level 3 Team Leader or Level 5 Operations Manager programmes, setting the stage for remarkable growth. We’re cheering on our colleagues as they take this bold step forward and can’t wait to see how they progress through the course. The campaign highlights the importance of tyre maintenance and why it matters for road safety. Kathryn Malloch – Head of Customer & User Experience: "This Girl Is Me" "Grateful for every challenge that shaped the journey. Like many, I left university unsure of what I truly wanted to do. After teaching English abroad and doing several temp jobs, I found my way into a Marketing role at a large DIY company. I loved the fast pace of Retail and explored different areas of Marketing, but my career really took off when I was approached for a role in Ecommerce. I had zero experience and struggled with imposter syndrome, but with the encouragement of a senior female colleague, I applied for the Ecommerce Trading Manager role—and got it. Her support changed the course of my career. I thrived, expanding my skills and leading transformation projects that fuelled my passion for Customer Experience and Innovation. This led to a transition into Retail Property, where I built an innovation program from scratch, pitched investment cases, and led strategy, all outside my comfort zone. After 7 years, I was ready for a new challenge. That’s when Halfords came into the picture. I was drawn to the company’s breadth—spanning both Retail and the Automotive sector. Though I wasn’t from a motoring background, I saw it as an advantage. Many of our customers feel unsure about car maintenance, and I knew I could bring a fresh perspective to better understand their needs. My journey has allowed me to truly make a difference in an industry where trust, expertise, and customer service are essential. Holly Darvell – Autocentre Technician: "This Girl Is Me" "Following in my father’s footsteps, making my mark in the motor trade. Hi, I’m Holly, 22, and I work at the Halfords Autocentre in Canterbury. My passion for cars started at a young age, inspired by my father, a HGV recovery specialist and mechanic. I helped him service our cars at home, which fuelled my interest even more. I studied Level 2 at Broadstairs College and secured an apprenticeship at Halfords in 2022. Since then, I’ve learned how to do servicing, brakes, diagnostics, and MOT repairs. In 2023, I was awarded Halfords Apprentice of the Year and came first in the IMI Apprentice of the Year award 2024. I’ve also gained my Refrigerant Handling and Level 3 Hybrid and Electric qualifications. Looking back, I want to thank my younger self for believing in my dreams and following my passion. Meg Styles – ESG Project Manager – Packaging: "This Girl Is Me" "From a girl who felt different, to a woman making a difference. My name is Meg Styles, and I’m proud to be part of Halfords' ESG team, managing packaging and compliance. ESG stands for Environmental Social Governance – our focus is on making positive changes for both the environment and people. Every day, I get to work in a space that aligns with my lifelong passions: cars, creativity, and sustainability. If I could thank my younger self, it would be for her curiosity and resilience in exploring different paths. If I’d known a job like this existed when I was younger, it would’ve been my dream career. Along the way, I explored different paths, from studying photography to teaching and eventually earning a master’s in sustainable supply chain management. That journey led me here. Working for Halfords allows me to embrace everything I love – creating sustainable packaging and inspiring positive change. The gender imbalance in both the automotive and environmental sectors is something I’m keen to address.
