About us

Hall for Cornwall is home to the Cornwall Playhouse, the Duchy's leading entertainment venue for theatre, music, dance, opera & comedy and Cornwall's only largescale venue. As a social enterprise and charity, we're backers of creative brilliance. Not only do we bring great shows to Cornwall from the West-End, Broadway, Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and more, we also enthusiastically support local creatives and community champions. Our Get Creative team partner with local schools and organisations to support their creative development. We pioneer projects that let people feel the power of performance. We're passionate about supporting artists and practitioners who are creating original work, and offer footholds for the next generation of talent to get their unique perspective out to the wider world. In our HUSA workspace, we house creative businesses forging the industry's future, including Cornwall Pride, Black Voices Cornwall, Wildworks, Tecgirls and Creative UK. We’re constantly amazed by what our audiences, collaborators, participants and teams make possible. Our 1352 capacity venue is also home to the Green Room Café and Playhouse Bar, open for coffee, cake, cocktails, and creative workshops. Keen to find out more? Come and walk our Ope Way, open most days 11am-4pm, for you to wander from Lemon Quay to Boscawan Street, and explore the behind-the-scenes magic of the Cornwall Playhouse.

Happy birthday to us! Three years ago today, after a true transformation, we took a leap of faith, throwing open our doors again to unveil a shock of new spaces - from the drop-dead gorgeous Cornwall Playhouse to the relaxed vibes of the Green Room Cafe and ever-so-cool Playhouse Bar. Since then, our incredible team have welcomed more than 700,000 people through the doors across nearly 1,000 performances, not to mention 33,000+ young people engaged and let's not even talk about how many interval drinks we've poured! That's why we're here - for making memories, forging futures and celebrating culture. To audiences, friends, funders, members and our team - thank you for making this happen, we couldn't have done it without you, we couldn't be more proud to be doing it with you.

DAME FAME Who will be inducted into our Hall of Dame? Inspired by our dive into damehood, where Edward Rowe will feature this year as Dame Trott in our Pantomime, Jack and The Beanstalk, we're shining a light on Cornish dames from across the region. Are you a star in your local pantomime? Do you don a frock to tread the boards in this festive tradition? If you or someone you know takes on this fabulous role, we’d love to hear from you! Follow the link below to find out more. Our team are excited to shine a light on dames from all corners of Kernow. We'll celebrate every single one of you between now and Christmas, and a few lucky inductees will receive an invite to our gala press night on 07 Dec and a special Dame photoshoot backstage at HFC in November, before you take your place in our spangly new Hall of Dame! On World Mental Health Day we're celebrating the brilliant trained members of the HfC team who volunteer every day to be our duty Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA). Our industry hasn't always been great at looking after its own workforce, but we recognise that if we're asking our team to be 'all in', we also need to make it clear that it's ok to not be ok. MHFAs provide support to our team, cast and crew - and occasionally audiences too - we're all in this together, and sometimes it gets tough. It's ok not to be ok. #WorldMentalHealthDay

When it comes to feedback from audiences on our transformed spaces and the magic that goes on within, touched doesn't even cut it: we read every comment (glowing and, yes, the glowering ones too), share them to relevant teams and take this kind of stuff to heart. Thank you - makes it all worthwhile for the brilliant team here.
