I recently had the pleasure of moderating a panel event in Brussels on #GenderEqualityInPA. We brought together voices from across the sector to highlight real experiences and identify genuine, actionable steps forward. It was an honour to share the stage at The Nine with Zuzana Púčiková, Rick Zedník, Nanna-Louise Linde and Georgia Mourad Brooks, all of whom are incredible champions for gender equality. While we’ve come a long way, the conversations we had showed us that barriers still exist for women, from subtle microaggressions to deep-rooted cultural biases. But as highlighted by our panellists, real change isn’t only possible – it’s imperative. And it begins with #leadership. Leaders - this is my call to action to you: Make gender diversity a core business objective. Make it measurable. Make it matter. Incorporating #genderdiversity as a business objective is no longer just an aspirational goal; it’s a strategic necessity. Businesses that set concrete targets, embed accountability, and promote #inclusiveculture not only empower their teams but also unlock greater productivity, credibility, and trust in their stakeholder engagements. Creating an environment where both men and women are empowered to thrive, is a critical driver of #businesssuccess. It’s encouraging to see more businesses beginning to embed this into their core strategies, but there’s still so much potential for growth. #Genderequality in Public Affairs won’t be achieved overnight, but it’s through continued dialogue, concrete commitments, and accountability at every level that we will drive progress. This event was the first of many, and at Hanson Search we remain deeply committed to amplifying this conversation. If you couldn’t join us, I invite you to read our reflections and insights from the event – and let’s keep driving this vital change. #GenderEqualityInPA https://lnkd.in/eEE5abNq

I really enjoyed this fascinating discussion and was particularly struck by mention of the growing importance of brand and reputation to companies and candidates in the Middle East. This underlines the importance of partnership and collaboration between HR/people/culture teams and their communications colleagues, who will look at recruitment and onboarding processes with an external lens. This is critically important for companies who care about how future and current employees - as well as the media, and potential and existing clients - perceive their company. Effective communications throughout all touchpoints will help ensure that messaging and approach are consistent with the values and reputation that will help attract and retain top talent.

What is the current status of gender equality in public affairs in Brussels, and how can we move it forward? This was the question Hanson Search Europe asked on Tuesday, and answered by a dynamic and engaged panel & audience at The Nine. We heard from: 💠 Nanna-Louise Linde Vice President, European Government Affairs, Microsoft 💠 Zuzana Púčiková Strategy Director and Head of Tech, Acumen Public Affairs 💠 Rick Zedník Advisory Board Chair of Euractiv 💠 Georgia Mourad Brooks, Founder & CEO of The Nine 💠 Moderator: Barbara Ozanon Hanson Search Europe Head Thank you to the speakers for sharing personal anecdotes and experiences, an overview of the present and recent past, and tried-and-tested best practices. ❓ A key question managers can use to encourage greater equality and opportunities? Channel your inner JFK and ask "what can WE do to make this happen for you?" We at The Nine will host many more of these discussions in the future and warmly welcome a broader audience of male allies and champions to join us in rising up for equality 💪 #genderequality #GenderEqualityinPA #publicaffairs #brussels #BrusselsBubble #riseup #womensclub #TheNine

How come a discussion on gender equality in EU public affairs draws a room-full of women and only half a dozen guys? The list of things that need to be fixed to make the 'EU Bubble' a more equitable place to work for women is long. But if you're a guy, at least turn up, listen, learn and show that we get it and want to do our bit to help, when invited to join the discussion. In that spirit, I want to thank Georgia Mourad Brooks Barbara Ozanon Nanna-Louise Linde Zuzana Púčiková and Rick Zedník for an excellent discussion yesterday on gender equality in EU public affairs organised by Hanson Search at The Nine. The conversation highlighted not just the challenges and horror stories they experienced or observed, but also offered ideas on opportunities and ways we can drive change for the better. For me, a few ideas resonated strongly. Particularly those where we (as men with a briefcase full of privilege) can do something concrete as individuals to make things better. Celebrate colleagues that support and promote women. Be a role model, and show rather than tell. Don't organise #manels (its 2024 after all!). Challenge your biases and call out bad behaviour of others... The list could get quite long, but in a nutshell: don't ignore the small, everyday actions that add up to meaningful change. Because thinking and acting in this way about gender equality isn't just about women. There are lots of people that need to jump higher, run faster and shout louder than white men of a certain age (like me) to get to the same result. Inclusivity for the benefit of women can benefit many others too. We have come a long way, if we think back to the world our mothers and grandmothers lived and worked in. But we can't become complacent and stop - there is no force of nature driving us towards more equity and inclusivity, and plenty of men trying to drag us back to the way things were last century. Every little helps, and talking about these issues is a great step along the way. I hope at the next event, I'll see more guys in the audience! #GenderEqualityInPA
