Progressing Towards Sustainability Insights from HappyPorch's 2023 Carbon Footprint Report 🌍 At HappyPorch, we believe that transparency and continuous improvement are key to tackling the complex challenge of carbon reporting. Our 2023 Carbon Footprint Report highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental impact while acknowledging the challenges we face. 🌟 Key Achievements: • Total Carbon Emissions: 28,965 kgCO2, reflecting our total team of 14. Offsite Energy Reduction: 34% drop in emissions despite more in-person meetups - huge props to everyone’s efforts taking overland travel! • Home Energy: 46% increase due to a larger team this year, but adoption of renewable energy sources is on the rise. • Travel Efficiency: Improved travel emissions, with a significant shift towards sustainable travel practices. 💡 Challenges: • While our operations emissions increased, we've also improved and extended our measurement. However, we do need to continue to seek effective reduction strategies. 🌿 Nature positive initiatives: “Offsetting” is not an excuse to avoid the very real challenges of reduction - but it is a fun opportunity to invest in biodiversity positive and carbon drawdowns. We have purchased 46 square metres of a meadow fostering the growth of 28,000 wildflowers, a partnership we take great pride in with My Square Metre. We have also added 20 trees in our HappyPorch grove via Trees for Life and invested in the restoration of the Mombasa Mangrove Forest in Kenya through Ecosystem Restoration Communities and supported building clean energy and carbon-reducing through the “Improving Agriculture and Livelihoods” project in Uganda via Native, a Public Benefit Corporation. Our journey towards reducing our carbon footprint is a continuous quest for improvement. Every step we take, from small adjustments to large-scale initiatives, contributes to our overarching goal of sustainability. Driving Change: Unveiling HappyPorch's 2023 Impact Report Transparency is at the heart of what we do, and our latest report highlights our commitment to sustainability and responsibility. 🌍 2023 Highlights: • Environmental Stewardship: Our most significant achievement lies in our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint generated by our team's travel. We organised and attended three in-person meetups and what made these gatherings stand out was how we made conscious travel choices and travelled mostly by land. • Social Responsibility: During our May meetup in Buxton, we were happy to dedicate some of our time to volunteer work. • Governance: Successfully completed and submitted our B Corp recertification.
