Nigel Hawkins reviews the challenges facing infrastructure and renewable energy investors, analysing the share price performance of the Infrastructure Investment Companies and Renewable Energy Infrastructure Funds which have been impacted by the sharp interest rate rises in recent years. With a change of government in the UK and the possible relaxation of planning regulations for renewable energy, coupled with an improving picture from the Bank of England with expected interest rate cuts on the horizon, the sector could see a boost in valuations. Nigel's piece analyses the mixed performance among the IICs and REIFs as some have seen an improving picture despite the challenging economic environment. Hardman & Co publication on Volta Finance Ltd (VTA): FY’24: another year of outperformance Volta’s monthly to its FY-end of July reported an NAV total return of 19.7% while annualised cash receipts are 22% of the July NAV, consistent with levels seen since mid’22. For 16 consecutive months, it has generated positive NAV returns. In this note, we detail the different elements that have driven this performance. We note both positive markets and incremental value added by the manager. To put Volta’s returns into perspective, YTD to end-July, there has been a +10.8% total NAV return, more than twice the level of high-yield debt markets (US and Europe), which returned ca.4.5%. The discount appears anomalous with such a performance. Read the full report, here: https://lnkd.in/eKd7XrGD #financials #research #results #investing

Few people would deny that raising capital in 2023 and 2024 has been very challenging. In short, the key components of the market, the “two worlds” of corporates and investors, are nowadays often far apart in how they assess value. This has resulted in significant frustration and inertia, which, on a sustained basis, can have a significant negative impact on companies and the economy. This issue needs urgent attention, but is there any evidence that the situation is being addressed? #valuations #privatecompanies #mergersandacquistions #investmentportfolios #investing
