It's #WorldMentalHealthDay. Around half of work-related illness relates to stress, depression or anxiety — with affected people taking almost four weeks off per year on average. Talking is part of the solution. But opening up at work can sometimes leave us feeling vulnerable and in fear of judgement. It's one of the reasons that, earlier this week, we launched Harkn into our business. It's a clever colleague listening tool that leverages the safety of anonymity, empowering our people to share more — helping us learn more about our business, and them to bring more of themselves to work.

Feedback is a gift, even if it’s uncomfortable at times. But is your listening as open as you think? More companies want to foster a speak-up culture, but the real challenge is in how we respond when employees speak - particularly when it comes to challenging feedback or perspectives. "Getting people to speak up is often less about the less powerful having a voice and more about the more powerful really wanting to listen to others throughout the organisation." Megan Reitz For those leaders who want to listen better, here are three common biases that could be getting in the way of you hearing what you need to—and how to overcome them. Listening better means leading better. Check out our guide to see what might be getting in the way of you hearing what really matters. #leadership #feedback #employeevoice #listening #perspective #trust

Want to be better at listening? You’ve almost certainly heard about active listening—nodding, repeating back what’s said, and giving cues to show we’re paying attention. Maybe you've even been on a course. But when you’re leading an entire organisation, that’s just not going to cut it. Listening at scale requires a completely different skill set. It’s about going beyond the surface, hearing as many voices as possible (not just the loudest ones), and making sure that both trends and individual perspectives inform your decisions. And it's more than technology (although you'll almost certainly need some). Listening effectively is about unlocking the voices of your employees to help you make better decisions and make your company perform better. So, if that's something you're trying to achieve, here are five tips to help you listen (at scale) like a pro: ✅ Be curious, not judgemental. ✅ Encourage real, open dialogue. ✅ Balance patterns with individual voices. ✅ Be aware of your biases. ✅ Always close the loop. Because if your people don’t feel listened to, how can they trust you to lead them? #Leadership #ListeningAtScale #EmployeeVoice #InclusiveLeadership #TrustAndTransparency

🔦 Last but not least in our feature spotlight series is The Wellbeing Centre.    Empowering effective wellbeing support is integral to what we do, and The Wellbeing Centre is the centre of that activity.  Harkn is designed to catch wellbeing concerns early, and our algorithms empower a proactive – rather than reactive – approach.   Wellbeing cases can be picked up in multiple ways: an unusually low rating, a worrying comment, an employee expressing concern for a colleague, or the struggling individual raising their hand to ask for help.  The Wellbeing Centre itself is a case management system, where dedicated professionals like MHFA’s and those in wellbeing or HR roles can assess individual cases and offer further support where necessary.  Crucially, the entire end-to-end process of supporting an employee in need is anonymous – including our 1-1 messaging feature. Fear of speaking up remains one of the biggest barriers to effective wellbeing support at work, so this is a non-negotiable for us. When your people are your greatest strategic asset, looking after their wellbeing is not just a moral imperative but a business one too.  Have a look around The Wellbeing Centre below 👀 If you have any questions about our platform don’t hesitate to get in touch; and if you’d like to see it in action, we can arrange a live demo for you.  #HowDoYouHarkn#wellbeingatwork #wellbeing #workplacewellbeing #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #employeementalhealth #employeewellbeing #wellbeingtech #wellbeingtechnology #hrtech #worktech

It’s #NationalInclusionWeek; something we’re very passionate about here at Harkn. To mark the occasion and this year’s theme of #ImpactMatters, we’re resharing this clip from a Listen Up episode earlier this year. Talking to Howard Krais about all things employee listening, David Bellamy sets out why anonymity is so crucial to delivering on inclusion at work. While we all strive for a culture where everyone feels safe to speak up and be themselves at work, this is an idealistic vision. For various reasons – whether you’re the only woman on your team, or a neurodivergent individual who struggles with traditional communication channels – it will ALWAYS be more difficult for some people to have their say at work than others. So if inclusion matters to your business, dig a little deeper than policies and initiatives and consider how you can level the playing field by championing equal voice at work.   What’s more – you'll have a far richer, more diverse set of insights at your fingertips to drive your business forward.     #HowDoYouHarkn?   #inclusion #inclusionatwork #employeevoice #diversityandinclusion #EDI #DEI #employeeexperience #employeelistening #listeningtechnology #equalopportunities #neurodiversityatwork #autismawareness #workplaceculture #esg

🔦 Welcome back to our feature spotlight series, where we take you through different elements of our employee listening platform.  Up next is The Good Day Ratio – our secret sauce for high-performing organisations.  You have metrics to track all your business objectives, right? Sales, revenue, turnover...  But do you have a metric for organisational health? How your people are feeling? The state of sentiment and morale in your business?  Unless you’re already using Harkn, the answer to that is probably no.  But here’s the thing: Your people are your greatest strategic asset. Nothing good happens in your business without them.  So keeping a close eye on how your workforce is responding to change and developments in your business is not just advisable – it's a strategic imperative.  📈 The Good Day Ratio gives you a live and dynamic pulse on exactly that, tracking sentiment and morale on a rolling basis.  This revolutionary metric empowers better-informed decision-making, more effective change management, and improved wellbeing at work.  Sound too good to be true? Take a look at how the magic happens...     #HowDoYouHarkn?     #peopleanalytics #hrtech #worktech #hrsoftware #hrmetrics #peoplemetrics #employeewellbeing #wellbeingatwork #employeelistening #workplacewellbeing #workplaceculture

You might be pretty satisfied with your employee listening approach and the tools you use to gather feedback, but are your employees?  Research suggests not.  Decades of over relying on traditional approaches like periodic surveys and company town halls have slowly but surely eroded trust and engagement in our workplaces.  The events of the last few years, including the rise of digital and distributed working patterns and increasing organisational change, have exacerbated these problems. The result? A serious disconnect between what leadership expect from employees and how motivated they are to deliver.   🧠 Meaningful change doesn’t come from doing the same things faster or with a new provider. It comes from looking at the problem differently. At Harkn, we’ve flipped the employee engagement issue on its head. 👉 We’ve redefined ‘real-time’ employee listening as live and continuous. 👉 We’ve broken down the barriers stifling employee voice by guaranteeing anonymity when giving feedback. 👉 We’ve shifted organisations from a reactive approach to wellbeing issues to a proactive one that tackles root causes. The future lies in continuous listening. Will your organisation be ahead of the curve, or behind the times?     #HowDoYouHarkn?     #employeelistening #listeningstrategy #employeevoice #culturechange #workplaceculture #employeeengagement #listeningstrategy #continuouslistening #worktech #hrtech #engagementsurvey #changemanagement #futureofwork #greatplacetowork #psychologicalsafety

🔦Our third feature spotlight looks at Team Rooms – our asynchronous, anonymous focus groups. We don’t have favourites when it comes to our tools, but we are pretty proud of these... Early on in our journey we realised most employee listening approaches lacked the opportunity to dive deeper into a piece of feedback or explore a topic further – at least not without sacrificing anonymity. We wanted to recreate the depth of a focus group or workshop setting, without all the barriers that come with face-to-face meetings. And so, Team Rooms were born: Your opportunity to engage in sensemaking, problem-solving, and idea-sharing in the safety of anonymity. We’ve seen them used to facilitate meaningful discussion about everything from navigating menopause at work to solving supply chain issues. If you’re looking to create a learning organisation where agility, resilience, and innovation thrive, take a look at how our Team Rooms work 👇 #HowDoYouHarkn? #workplaceculture #leadership #employeefeedback #employeeinsights #employeelistening #employeevoice #diversityandinclusion #innovation #sensemaking #worktech #hrtech #hrsoftware #hrcommunity #focusgroups
