We’re excited to announce that our Chief Investment Officer, Paul Mason, will be speaking in London at the Financial Times Energy Transition Summit on 23rd October. In his session, ‘Energy Storage – The Linchpin for Reliable, Affordable, and Clean Energy’, Paul will explore the critical role that battery energy storage plays in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources like solar and wind, which are intermittent by nature. Now in its 9th year, the summit will showcase how the scaling of clean energy and widespread electrification provide a clear path to cost-effective decarbonisation. You can register for the FT Live conference here: https://lnkd.in/erANybqW #EnergyStorage #NetZero #EnergyTransition #BESS #FTEnergy #EnergySecurity

The UK was the birthplace of coal power, and now, over 140 years later, it’s the first major economy to give it up. But what’s next?   Today, the United Kingdom marks a significant milestone as the first G7 country to end coal-fired power production with the closure of its last plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar. Coal was once the backbone of the Industrial Revolution. From Thomas Edison’s first demonstration plant to generating 39% of the UK’s power in 2012, we’ve witnessed a massive shift towards renewables.   The UK is leading the way in the energy transition through wind and solar, but there’s an additional, much-needed technology that’s beginning to play a crucial role in the nation’s journey to net zero: battery energy storage.   Batteries can store energy generated by renewables and discharge it when renewable sources alone cannot meet energy demand. This helps fill the gap left by coal, providing dispatchable power to keep our lights on.   At Harmony, we’ve energised 17 Battery Energy Storage Systems (#BESS), including the multi-award-winning Pillswood site and the joint-largest #BESS in Europe by MWh, the 99 MW / 198 MWh Bumpers site. These projects provide critical balancing services to the UK’s electricity grid, helping to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy. We know battery storage will play a key role in positioning the UK as a clean energy superpower, however, we still need more battery storage sites to absorb surplus renewable energy and further displace fossil fuels.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eVrAnbfy

🌤 News: Third Harmony Energy Solar Farm with Energy Storage Promises Over 300 Jobs and Power For Over 20,000 Homes 🌤 Harmony Energy has received resource consent for a major solar farm and energy storage project in Carterton, New Zealand. ➡ The project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 20,000 homes, making a significant contribution to New Zealand's climate change efforts and its transition to a low-emissions economy. ➡ During the 18-month construction phase, the project is expected to create around 300 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs, providing a substantial boost to local employment and the economy. ➡ The facilities will help enhance the nation’s energy security and make clean energy more affordable. The development follows the recent approval of two similar Harmony Energy projects in New Zealand; one in Opunake and one in Marton. Combined, all three projects are expected to generate roughly 700 FTE jobs and power around 50,000 homes, representing a major investment in the country’s renewable energy future. Pete Grogan, Director at Harmony Energy, commented: "Securing resource consent for a third project in such a short period is a significant milestone for Harmony Energy. All our projects also allow for continued farming and incorporate extensive native planting to enhance biodiversity. The designs reflect a collaborative approach, with the team working closely with mana whenua and local partners. Collaboration, together with sustainability, innovation and safety are core values at Harmony Energy, so it's fantastic to see those values being reflected so strongly in the New Zealand business.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eKa46Z6U Join us in powering a sustainable future! 🌱🔋 #RenewableEnergy #CleanTech #Sustainability #SolarFarms #Solar #NewZealand #Energy #News

Harmony Energy Income Trust is thrilled to announce it has won the Best ESG Communication award at The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) Shareholder Communication Awards 2024.   The award recognises exceptional shareholder communications in ESG. HEIT was recognised for:   🟢Simplifying complexity: HEIT’s ESG communications avoided jargon to make sure ESG communications are accessible to a wide range of audiences. Visualisations are often used to make complex technology and concepts easily accessible to audiences. This approach was evident in its Annual Report, the revamped ESG website, and through simplified animations explaining the role of BESS.   🤜 Focus on impact: ESG content is a great tool to engage shareholders beyond regulatory communications. That’s why HEIT has embedded an ESG narrative, “powering a sustainable future”, from its inception. Using this engaging positioning helps tell its story better, showing how positive change is happening through its investments.   🗞️ Media coverage: HEIT achieved widespread media coverage, reaching both institutional and retail investors including the BBC’s 5 reasons to be optimistic on climate: https://lnkd.in/eTSGgDHf Harmony Energy's Head of Sustainability Lucie Peralta Agass, expressed her gratitude for the award: “We understand the importance of effective ESG communications to engage stakeholders and drive positive change, and we are delighted that AIC has acknowledged our efforts in this area.”   Find out more about our award-winning ESG communications here: https://lnkd.in/eYtrR_EF

🔋 Harmony Energy and industry calls for urgent action on battery storage to deliver 2030 target and cut household bills whilst reducing emissions 🔋 By ensuring grid-scale batteries are properly used, we can unlock investment, slash consumer costs, and accelerate the transition to clean energy. Investment in batteries does not need money from the Government. However, it does require a market that works properly. The Government has an opportunity to cut bills and emissions by ensuring that grid-scale batteries are being properly utilised and that the market is fit for purpose. As a coalition, we are ready to work together with the Government, the ESO and Ofgem to fix this long-standing issue. By reducing the skipping of batteries, we can cut consumer bills while giving investors the confidence to invest in the UK’s energy transformation.
