Our regional director Edward Catchpole has spoken to BBC News ahead of today’s Budget. With the political focus on economic growth and tackling the housing crisis, our sector needs funding stability for the critical infrastructure projects that can unlock large-scale regeneration across the country. At Thoresby Vale, Harworth is leading the transformation of the former colliery next to Sherwood Forest. Over the last decade, we have invested in the site’s remediation and enabled the development of much-needed housing. We also opened a new country park this summer and construction of a forest primary school started last month. We are ready to push ahead with further development and create a flourishing new community in the East Midlands – but to do this there needs to be funding allocated for improvements to the local highways network. Harworth has worked at a local, regional and national level to make the case for this. 📢 Read Ed’s perspective, as covered by Hugh Casswell and also featuring views from Claire Ward and Ben Bradley: https://lnkd.in/euD8xjJh 💡 Learn more about Harworth’s policy ideas to improve productivity, boost economic growth and create better life opportunities throughout the UK: https://lnkd.in/et7DkaYe #UKBudget #regeneration #housing #transport #funding #EastMidlands

📈📆 HARWORTH CAPITAL MARKETS DAY 2024 On Tuesday, Harworth hosted its 2024 Capital Markets Day in Leeds for investors and analysts. The event was a resounding success, it was interactive and insightful and enjoyed by all – and we even had beautiful weather! The day kicked off with a management presentation in the morning, hosted by Harworth’s Chief Executive Lynda Shillaw, who was joined by fellow speakers Jonathan Haigh, Matt Smith and Chris Davidson. The replay of this live webcast can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eMimD-2H The presentation focused on the Group’s significant growth opportunity in the Industrial & Logistics sector, its capabilities, confidence and track record of successful delivery and its intention to retain more directly developed Grade A space in its Investment Portfolio. A copy of the presentation is available here: https://lnkd.in/e8JAwefw After the presentation a short coach ride took the group to Skelton Grange and Gascoigne Interchange, for a walking tour of both sites. These are two of Harworth’s largest scale I&L sites, both at differing stages of development but with lots to see and take in. We thank everyone who attended for making the trip to Leeds, and thank all of our colleagues and partners who came together to make the event a huge success. 📰 HARWORTH NEWS Harworth has begun road improvement works on the A6 Chorley Road as part of its Wingates development in Bolton. This project aims to realign a short section of the A6 Chorley Road in Westhoughton to provide a new, dedicated access route to the site, where Harworth is delivering up to 1.1 million square feet of logistics and manufacturing space. David Burkinshaw, Development Director for the North West region at Harworth, commented: “Construction of the new, dedicated access road to the Wingates site is designed to help improve traffic flows on the A6 Chorley Road. Off-site highway improvements are also planned as part of the wider Wingates scheme, which will provide substantial benefits to the existing network as well as accommodating traffic generation from the development. “We are continuing to work with local residents to ensure that they are kept informed throughout the works, and we hope that the landscaped buffer and green, planted area, as well as the new cycle lanes and improved safety measures will also benefit the wider community.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/emYtBsFh #infrastucture #improvements #wingates #industrial #logistics

It’s been #40years since the coal miners’ strike of 1984-5. Deindustrialisation had a lasting impact on many parts of the north of England and the Midlands, including South Yorkshire. But four decades on, the region is firmly on the map as a place of modern British industry thanks to its established #advancedmanufacturing sector. At the heart of this is the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham which Harworth has developed in collaboration with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and, historically, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward. Built on the site of the former Orgreave colliery and coking works, the AMP is a modern day reflection of the region’s manufacturing heritage. Anchored by The University of Sheffield’s AMRC, today it is home to global businesses like McLaren Automotive Ltd, Rolls-Royce, and Boeing alongside government-backed organisations including the UK Atomic Energy Authority and businesses with roots in South Yorkshire such as X-Cel Group . Harworth is currently developing new units to meet the ongoing growth demands of the sector in the region – including for Sheffield-founded business Technicut Limited. Our vision to deliver thousands of jobs at the AMP – significantly more than when the Orgreave coking works closed in 1990 – continues at pace. The success of the AMP is testament to what can be achieved when the public and private sector taking a committed, collaborative and well-planned approach to large-scale regeneration. #40years #employment #jobs #advancedmanufacturing

🏫 HARWORTH COMMUNITIES Groundbreaking ceremony marks work commencing on a new ‘forest school’ at Thoresby Vale, Edwinstowe. Harworth, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, the Local Education Authority, is delighted to announce the official groundbreaking for a new primary school at its Thoresby Vale development. What better than a forest school for Sherwood Forest! This exciting new style ‘forest school’ school will offer a unique educational environment where students can learn and thrive in close connection with nature. The forest school, designed by Lungfish Architects and delivered by principal contractor Stepnell, will open its doors to students in September 2025. Located in the historic Sherwood Forest, the school will serve to reinforce the importance of habitat conservation and environmental stewardship, while providing children with the benefits of a forest school education. Studies have shown that forest schools contribute positively to children’s mental and physical well-being, fostering creativity, confidence, and a lifelong connection to the natural world. Andrew Blackshaw, Chief Operating Officer at Harworth Group, spoke at the ceremony and commented: “This project reflects our commitment to sustainable development and the value we place on creating environments where children can grow and learn. In Sherwood Forest, a place known for its rich natural history, this school is an ideal setting for students to gain a deeper connection to the outdoors while receiving a high quality education. We’re thrilled to see the vision of this school come to life, in collaboration with our partners at Nottinghamshire County Council, the Local Planning Authority, Newark and Sherwood District Council, and Edwinstowe Parish Council.” Tracey Taylor, Scott Carlton, Nigel Moxon, Michael Wayne Bexton and Sam Smith of Nottinghamshire County Council, were all present to mark the occasion and offered their support for the project. 📰 HARWORTH NEWS Harworth is pleased to announce it has completed on the acquisition of Catalyst, a 285,000 sq. ft., Grade A, urban logistics estate in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, for a purchase price of £43.7 million. The asset, completed in 2023, is strategically located adjacent to the Group's flagship industrial development and major UK manufacturing hub, the Advanced Manufacturing Park. The acquisition is in line with Harworth’s strategy to grow its Investment Portfolio to £0.9 billion by the end of 2029 and transition its core portfolio to 100% Grade A by 2027. Following this acquisition, alongside practical completion of a further 73,000 sq. ft. of Industrial & Logistics space at the AMP earlier this month, the Group’s Investment Portfolio will total 2.8 million sq. ft., of which 45% is Grade A (30 June 2024: 37%). Lynda Shillaw, Chief Executive, Harworth, commented: "This acquisition, the largest of an Industrial & Logistics investment asset in Harworth's history, aligns with our strategy to grow our high-quality Investment Portfolio. It also continues our track record of strategic site assembly, providing an opportunity to extend the AMP, further establishing it as one of the leading manufacturing and distribution centres in the region. "Increased direct development and the retention of Grade A Industrial & Logistics assets across our major sites, supplemented by select, income producing acquisitions, is core to our strategy, whilst we will also look to recycle properties where value has been maximised through completed asset management initiatives."
