Leading international design practice with studios in Australia, Asia, the UK, and US.
About us
We are a leading international design practice with studios in Australia, China, South East Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Our vision is to design the world's best places - places people love. Our design values are shared globally across all our studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work across a broad range of scales, from the interior design of a boutique retail store through to major public architecture and strategic urban planning for cities. And we work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. Our focus is on people and how we create better, more meaningful experiences for them. We do that through creative, holistic thinking, a deep knowledge base and a rigorous design process. We judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them - the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. The Michael Kirby Building at Macquarie Law School has been recognised at the 2024 Australian Timber Design Awards with two award wins – People’s Choice and Public Building. Located on Dharug Country in Sydney, Australia, the building tells a story of sustainable adaptation and growth, offering new gathering spaces that encourage interaction and promote the exchange of ideas. A three-storey timber structure, built on the existing footprint of a disused 1985 concrete building, the building repositions the site into a central focal point for the campus. The new, light-filled spaces provide flexibility for workplace, research and teaching, while remaining adaptable for future change. The building adopts a holistic approach to sustainability by reducing its carbon lifecycle footprint through the adaptive reuse of the former building and its new cross-laminated timber addition. Congratulations to our client Macquarie University, our collaborators including FDC Construction & Fitout and our design team. 🔗 Learn more about the Michael Kirby Building: https://lnkd.in/gQqmpvp7 #Hassell #EducationDesign #PlacesPeopleLove #AdaptiveReuse #TimberDesign

The Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre for refugees in Uganda is designed by Hassell and Localworks in collaboration with creative platform to.org. Since its inauguration in early December 2023, the centre has thrived as a beacon of creativity and unity in Africa’s largest refugee settlement. It has quickly become a hub where youth come together to create, share music and dance traditions, and build community. Uniting both refugee and non-refugee communities, the centre acts as a base to nurture local talent and promote cross-cultural dialogue — paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient future. “This performing arts centre is not just a building; it's a testament to the resilience and creativity of displaced communities,” says Mawa Zacharia, a refugee and co-founder of SINA LOKETA, a Ugandan non-profit organisation that supports refugees and disadvantaged communities. “It provides us with a space where we can reclaim our narratives, celebrate our culture, heal from our trauma, and connect with one another.” 🔗 Find out more about the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre: https://lnkd.in/g2aFMJ3C 📷 Photography by Mutua Matheka, courtesy of To.org #BidiBidiPerformingArtsCentre #CommunitySpirit #RefugeeSupport #ArtisticResilience #Architecture #Uganda

MinterEllison’s new Perth workplace redefines traditional law firm design by embracing an inside-out approach. Located inside the Hassell-designed One The Esplanade commercial tower in Western Australia, the layout positions client meeting and arrival zones in the centre for optimal access and privacy. Open workspaces and communal areas along the periphery maximise breathtaking views of the Swan River and Supreme Court Gardens. The design captures Perth’s unique natural light and vibrant sunsets, creating a dynamic environment that’s both calm and energising. It’s a design approach that ensures every corner connects to the beauty outside, reflecting MinterEllison’s commitment to well-being and innovation. 🔗 Learn more about MinterEllison’s new office space: https://lnkd.in/gG3xnSV2 📷 Photography by Dion Robeson #CommercialandWorkplace #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #PlacesPeopleLove

Are meeting rooms in your workplace in high demand? This year’s Workplace Futures Survey, The Big Calm, reveals that as workplace patterns stabilise, many employees are struggling with outdated spaces. With a growing preference for quiet areas to focus or collaborate, meeting rooms are increasingly being used to fill the gaps left by offices over-optimised on open plan. Addressing these shortages can directly boost worker satisfaction levels by up to 24 percent – an opportunity for companies looking to improve productivity. Fortunately, some workplaces are already making changes, with new meeting rooms being the second most common update. It’s time to rethink how we configure workplaces, ensuring they support both collaboration and concentration. 🔗 Learn more about what workers want from their workplace, and how yours stacks up: https://lnkd.in/gPNdz-X9 📷 Photography by Earl Carter #Hassell #OfficeDesign #TheBigCalm #WorkplaceFutures #PlacesPeopleLove

Watch how our unique 3-D-printed earth design for a community building in Hope Village, Tanzania will come to life. A Hassell collaboration with charity foundation One Heart Foundation, structural engineers Eckersley O'Callaghan and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona, Spain, the building forms the heart of a master plan for Hope Village in Kibaha, western Tanzania, which aims to provide housing, education and skills training to vulnerable young girls. 🔗 Learn more about our sustainable community building in Hope Village, Tanzania: https://lnkd.in/gFZqpRW6 📹 Video by Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and Jaime Weston #CommunityBuilding #Tanzania #SustainableDesign #3DPrintedEarth #SocialValue

Designed with a warm, generous spirit, The Square — the new food and beverage precinct within Melbourne Airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, Australia puts the traveller experience at its heart. "Our strategy was to craft a space that radiates warmth and tranquillity amid the bustling airport atmosphere,” says Principal Dan Cox. “Embracing locally sourced materials and locally designed furniture, we seamlessly blended this scheme with the existing terminal. New elements, such as reflective and illuminated ceilings, enhance views to the runway and intuitively guide passengers to the gates." 🔗 Explore more on our design for The Square at Melbourne Airport: https://lnkd.in/grDGW6zh 📷 Photography by Earl Carter #MelbourneAirportTerminal1 #InteriorDesign #AirportDesign #AirportFood #MelbourneAirport #MelbourneDesign
