After 10 years assisting Hawco customers with outstanding support, Mervin Chumun is leaving us. We wish him every success in the future. Merv joined Hawco as a technical support engineer in 2014 after 12 years on the road as a refrigeration and AC engineer. He takes immense pride in his work, treating every project, large and small, in the same way. “As an engineer” he says, “you follow the same process every single time… you learn there’s a way of doing things right.” From the start, he has learned a lot with us, from cold room design to OEM applications. “It was a very steep learning curve but I was lucky to have people around me to help. I have tried to learn more and more about the industry, how its changing, new technologies, even old technologies that have a phase down protocol. “I’m glad I’ve got the tools I’ve learnt from Hawco - all the positivity I’ve had and everything I’ve learnt I will be taking with me.” What are Mervin’s proudest moments of his time at Hawco? 🔹 Inspired after a visit to LU-VE’s factory, he challenged himself to size up a project for two 80kW blast chillers and one 130kW blast freezer. “It was a long hard year… because we went through about 12 different revisions. But we managed to get it over the line.” 🔹 Merv introduced Hawco’s first range of CO2 condensing units. This was followed by the design and selection of some prestigious R744 projects, which were successfully commissioned under his careful supervision. 🔹 “Chillventa is an experience I am never going to forget”, he says. “I really enjoyed it from the moment the doors opened, it was all hands on deck – and you had to make sure you were on point with your memory about all the products.” 🔹 Mervin was also responsible for ensuring we became a Refcom Elite member, demonstrating and promoting the highest industry standards. Is there anything he is going to miss? “The camaraderie. There’s never a dull day in the office and there are always people to make you smile. Having fun and working hard is a key part of working at Hawco.” All the best in your new role Mervin.

Specialist Components that Better Match the Needs of your Application
About us
We are an international distributor and a UK wholesaler – but we’re not here to just shift stock. We work with engineers, R&D designers, and procurement managers every day, helping them to specify the right parts and equipment for their products or next project. And we do this by asking the right questions. We will often go beyond the basic technical requirements – and enquire about your application as a whole - as well as what matters to you as a business. Because the more successful you are, the more successful we are. Our carefully selected range includes 26,000 quality components from 250 international suppliers - spanning all aspects of refrigeration, air conditioning, process heating and temperature control systems. This includes some of the most trusted names in the world including Bourdon, Carel, Eliwell, Embraco, Fenwal Controls, Hitachi, LAE Electronic, LG Electronics, LU-VE and Tecumseh. Our most popular 2,500 items are kept in stock for immediate dispatch from our UK warehouse. We also specialise in sourcing or developing customised parts and assemblies for a specific application. We support a diverse range of manufacturers in the UK, Europe and North America advising them on what's possible. We sometimes work with companies from an early stage in their design process and helping them to grow and expand. We also advise HVACR contractors and service engineers in the UK with the technical information they need to make a quick decision about the parts they require, making their life a little bit easier. Sometimes we offer brands or products that are new to our customers – and we are keen to share our knowledge or make suggestions about alternative technologies or refrigerant options. It's day three at #Chillventa and it's your last chance to talk to our expert team on stand 7-109 about how to achieve greater energy savings from your compressors and fans. We've had a lot of interest in the latest A2L models from Hitachi from companies who need to transition to low-GWP refrigerants to meet tighter legislation. Hitachi's horizontal and vertical variable speed compressors are pre-qualified for use with inverter drives from our UK partners Invertek Drives, minimising the time required for selection, commissioning and testing. If you have a question about inverter drives for BLDC compressors, you can also visit product manager, Dylan Davies or Hitachi's Business Development Manager Marc Evrard on stand 4-270. #hawcoatchillventa #chillventa2024 #spotthegolfball

Why are we giving away golf balls on stand 7-109 at #Chillventa? And why do some impellers on our EC fans have dimples? Adding dimples to a fan blade contributes to overall fan efficiency by reducing drag (the same happens with a golf ball, making it fly further). It is one of the reasons why Lagrange refrigeration fans from UNADA deliver unprecedented energy efficiency - with an improved 10% energy savings compared to the previous Penta series. This enables manufacturers of refrigerated display cabinets to immediately improve the performance of the energy rating of their products. Meet Eduardo Strle and the UNADA team behind this innovation on stand 7-109 at #chillventa to find out how new levels of fan efficiency have been achieved. And be sure to pick up your complimentary golf ball too! #ecfans #refrigeration #axialfans #fanefficiency #energyefficiency #evaporators #hawcoatchillventa #heatpumps

Welcome to #Chillventa 2024. Our team on stand 7-109 includes two experts in their field - Adam Harrison MInstR and Eduardo Strle. If you are looking for advice on reducing your energy consumption, be sure to seek them out. As our technical applications manager, Adam joined us earlier this year from The Bond Group UK, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of supermarket display cases. He has over 20 years of experience in the design and optimisation of cabinets and can help with enquiries about scroll compressors, EC fans and components for use with hydrocarbon and A2L refrigerants. Eduardo joins us from UNADA, an innovative manufacturer of EC fans designed specifically for refrigeration. Over the past 18 months, he has lead their aerodynamics group in developing the Lagrange range of EC fans using the latest machine learning tools. With a background in thermodynamics stretching over a decade, Eduardo can explain how this range, which makes its Chillventa debut this week, achieves industry-leading levels of efficiency - including a 10% improvement in performance over the previous Penta range. #hawcoatchillventa #scrollcompressors #commercialrefrigeration #chillventa2024 #r290 #refrigeration #ecfans #axialfans #fanefficiency #energyefficiency #hitachi #sci

Our stand at #Chillventa next week will focus on how variable speed scroll compressors can reduce energy consumption. The DPW horizontal series from Siam Compressor Industry (Mitsubishi Electric Group) is one example, designed to minimise energy consumption in larger refrigerated display cases measuring between 1 and 3.75 metres long. These R290 compressors can replace one or more fixed speed compressors with a single inverter-driven model to improve the energy rating of a cabinet - with a choice of 22CC, 28CC, 36CC and 42CC and a maximum cooling capacity of 7.6kW (MT) and 2.5kW (LT). With a low height of just 180mm, retail shelf space inside the cabinet can be increased. And an oval shaped scroll ensures low noise and minimal vibration to create a better shopping experience. SCI provide a dedicated plug-and-play driver for a complete match with their compressors as a single integrated package. Alternatively, the Optidrive Coolvert drive from Invertek Drives is developed for BLDC refrigeration compressors like these. Take a look inside a DPW compressor on stand 7-109 from 8 to 10 October - and ask our expert refrigeration team - Chris Hodges, Adam Harrison MInstR, Richard West MInstR and Rob Sutherland - how display cases can be more energy-efficient with SCI scroll compressors. #scrollcompressor #commercialrefrigeration #refrigeration #r290 #refrigerationsystems #hawcoatchillventa

Over the past decade, we’ve supplied 12,000 Hitachi horizontal scroll compressors to The Bond Group UK, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of refrigerated display cases. The energy-saving and quiet compressors are integrated into the company’s popular low-fronted integral cabinets, helping to maximise the reduction in energy consumption. An early adopter of scroll technology, The Bond Group has been focused on improving energy efficiency for its British customers, which include ASDA, Iceland, WHSmith and SPAR to name but a few. Hawco’s technical applications manager, Adam Harrison MInstR, was the technical lead at The Bond Group during this period. He will be sharing his experience on how to improve energy efficiency during #Chillventa. Visit us on stand 7-109 to discuss new options for energy saving. #scrollcompressor #commercialrefrigeration #refrigeration #a2l #r290 #refrigerationsystems #hawcoatchillventa

For over 20 years, manufacturers of refrigerated display cabinets have relied on Hitachi horizontal scrolls to maximise their retail shelf area - with a compressor that measures just 130mm high. With its high side pressure design, direct suction creates high oil circulation rates. This leads to better reliability and longer lifespan. A highly engineered scroll wrap not only delivers a high compression ratio - but lower noise and vibration for an improved shopping experience. Now available for use with A2L (R454C, & R455A) refrigerants as well as R290, all models are pre-qualified for use with the Optidrive Coolvert inverter drive from Invertek Drives, reducing the time and costs associated with testing and setup. Examples of the ZS (R290) and ZY (A2L) ranges will be available on the Hawco stand (7-109) at #Chillventa from 8 to 10 October. If you have a design project in mind, why not discuss it with one of our OEM refrigeration team - Chris Hodges, Adam Harrison MInstR, Richard West MInstR or Rob Sutherland. #scrollcompressor #commercialrefrigeration #refrigeration #a2l #r290 #refrigerationsystems #hawcoatchillventa
