Hayes Davidson is delighted to be a creative partner for the annual ideas competition, The Davidson Prize. This year's theme is ’Streets Ahead: the race to build 1.5 million homes', and our team has been giving their top tips to entrants on how to best visualise their transformative designs and concepts. Senior Artist Sam Shortland talked about the importance of placemaking in visualisations and the best way to show how a scheme fits into its context. Cara Stephen shared the importance of using great references to underpin your visualisations in order to speak to the audience in the most appropriate way and guide the narrative of your design. Serena Di Froscia explained how using people in imagery helps the viewer to relate to the project by imagining themselves using the space, and empathising with the story being told. More than just a collection of our work from recent years,  HD Cubed invites readers to go beyond the printed still images—using our custom-built digital tools to interact with projects in exciting, immersive ways. Much of our work is now experiential, so we wanted to create something that doesn't just showcase them, but truly demonstrates them. A chip embedded in the cover allows you to download our app, unlocking interactive experiences such as 360° views, cinemagraphs, 'super-zoom' images, films, and augmented reality models. HD Cubed is a result of our ongoing creative collaboration with BOB Design Ltd and combines elements of our brand identity with analogue print and digital technology. David Bullock from Hayes Davidson said: “As a studio we are passionate about democratising the built environment and fostering wider participation and dialogue, so it seemed like a natural fit to partner with The Davidson Prize which encourages collaboration between disciplines. We have followed the Prize closely since its inception and are excited to contribute to the process, offering counsel to the finalists and winning team.” Hayes Davidson will invite each of the three finalists to attend a workshop to help them visualise and communicate their design concepts. The winner will also receive an additional week of Hayes Davidson's support to develop their winning concept to help them engage with key decision makers.

Very exciting news that the redevelopment of 99 Bishopsgate by RSHP and Brookfield Properties has been granted approval by the City of London’s Planning Committee! We’re proud to have played a part in this transformative project, producing a series of images to support the planning application. The scheme will introduce best-in-class office space, a vibrant public realm, and seamless new pedestrian routes—enhancing the heart of the City. A standout feature of the development is Open Gate, a six-storey cultural building designed as a hub for community engagement, artistic expression, and collective enrichment. Anchored by Intermission Youth, Open Gate will provide a platform for underrepresented young voices, using Shakespeare to foster inclusivity in the arts. 🟢 After a five year journey, the community-led masterplan Mayday Saxonvale in Frome has been given the go ahead! The plan ensures that new buildings and public spaces will meet local needs and will be owned and managed by the community in perpetuity. Alongside 262 new homes, the scheme includes much-needed commercial spaces and community-owned assets including a lido, hotel, and arts centre. Residential layouts are designed around central gardens to give space for communal events and food growing. Congratulations to our friends Studio Saar and the rest of the Mayday Saxonvale team. CHANGING WITH THE TIMES Delighted to have my opinion piece featured in the latest issue of @NLA’s New London Quarterly magazine, in which I explore why the visualisation industry must embrace greater flexibility, value, and innovation to meet the challenges facing its clients today. The built environment industry has transformed dramatically over the past two decades. When I first joined Hayes Davidson in 2008, the focus was largely on product, aesthetics, and self-expression, with visualisation typically supporting a single point in the design process. Today, projects are shaped by collaboration, social responsibility, and environmental awareness, and as a result, visualisation has evolved into a more fluid discipline, playing a vital role throughout a project’s lifecycle. While photo-real renders still have their place, they must be paired with compelling storytelling and strategically used tools and technologies to enable ongoing consultation and collaboration. Visual communication today should aim to foster deeper engagement and drive lasting change, conveying ideas, ambition, and social value. In doing so, it can help make our cities more thoughtful, responsive, and inclusive.
