British luxury for life’s refined rebels

About us

Hayley Menzies is a London-based contemporary luxury label specialising in silk, knitwear and lasting treasures made for life's refined rebels. Hayley Menzies’ fashion training began in the London College of Fashion where she studied design and styling. Her career took a meandering route through London’s wild rave scene to running a nightlife business, via yoga training in Thailand. It was in these years as a rock n’ rolling stone that Hayley’s unique aesthetic took shape. In 2011, Hayley Menzies set up a stall in Portobello Market selling vintage fashion and handmade shawls and scarves. Her sharp edits amassed a fast and loyal following of stylish women who inspired Hayley to set up her own brand. Through intuition and passion Hayley conceptualised her brand, a contemporary womenswear brand made for life’s refined rebels. Hayley Menzies is now stocked in over 100 stores in 17 countries worldwide.

Cause' I'm A Wanderer- Autumn Winter 2024 To the fearless explorers and starry-eyed romantics, to those who don't follow maps but make them: for Autumn Winter 2024, Hayley Menzies 🐾 invites you to set off on a voyage of discovery inspired by the nomadic allure of the gypsy lifestyle. Drawing on untamed landscapes and the vibrant cultures encountered along the way, it is a collection that is alive with the sounds, fragrances, and energies of unknown territories, transcending borders, influences and eras. Silhouettes, referenced from the archives of the 40s, 70s and 90s, pay homage to the brand's Portobello roots, embracing eclecticism with a modern Menzies twist. Designed for wandering days that roll into unexpected nights, pieces are effortlessly casual with the spark of glamour required should adventures arise: bias-cut satin slips, fluid silk crepe-de-chine shirt dresses, cloud-soft alpaca knitwear and merino jacquard co-ords. Voluminous lurex-woven silk gowns and giant sequin studded dresses fit seamlessly into the lives of both vagabonds and VIPs. Details of craftsmanship abound, weaving the richness of diverse cultures into every piece. Delicate embroidery, hand-crotcheted bobbles and flowers, and fringing celebrate artisanal skills rooted in ancient communities, while original print stories- laden with patchworks, tapestries, florals and geometric motifs- speak to global inspiration. True to Hayley's hunter, gatherer style, this season's leitmotif- the Tibetan Tiger- is inspired by an antique book on carpets and features vibrantly across the brand's iconic merino cardigans and dusters, as well as staple sweatshirts and organic tees. 🐅 🏜 ☀ 💙 Campaign Credits: Creative Director: Hayley Menzies 🐾 Photographer: @ashton.hf Digital Operator: @pawelherman Videographer: @roisino_ Model: @marie.koehn Stylist: @vanesaaller Hairstylist: @myuijisato Make Up: @avaartistry

lucy siegle is a woman after our own heart; a force to be reckoned with when it comes to sustainability, celebrated for her unwavering dedication to shedding light on the clothing industry's impact. With her ground-breaking book "To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World?" and her insightful columns in The Guardian, she fearlessly confronts the environmental and social challenges woven into our wardrobes. As part of our Earth Month content series, we caught up with Lucy to hear more about the challenges we face, the need for progress and the sartorial steps we can all take to build a greener, more conscious fashion future. What’s the biggest challenge fashion faces today? The industry is not anywhere near a path to decarbonise (we need to do this to meet Paris Climate Agenda and keep global warming well below two degrees). Basically the fashion industry is heading in the wrong direction using up more of our global carbon budget to make clothes that stay in our wardrobe for less time than at any other point in history. The biggest challenge the industry has is to stop producing stuff that nobody wants or needs. It’s estimated 40% of fashion produced becomes waste before it even gets put on sale. You wrote the book To Die For over a decade ago - are you satisfied with the progress of issues raised?  No, I am not. The primary issues of over production and exploitation of workers in the supply chain have not been solved and they should have been. My book is prescient in the most horrible way as it predicts huge disasters and loss of life - realised three years after "To Die For" was published in the Rana Plaza disaster of 2013. In terms of pumping out industry the brands became worse because we’re now in the age of rapid fast fashion brands aided and abetted by social media. There really is no respite for young people from brands these days. But what I am so grateful for is a new generation of designers, creatives, stylists, fashion activists, students, innovators, celebrities etc who give a damn and are a massive unstoppable disruptive force! When I wrote to die for, I didn't know they were on the horizon. Activism on sustainable fashion is off the chart these days. What do you look for in a brand before investing in a piece of their clothing? I look for something that combines good fit and quality fabric with a bit of interesting design and personality. I really want expressive, fun clothes that are also beautifully made and extremely considered. It’s a winning formula for me. But the first thing I will 100% know is that I have a gap in my wardrobe and a gap in my life for it. Eons ago i came up with #30wears the 30 wears rule.. When you see a piece can you commit right then and there to wearing it 30 times? Or 300 or 3000 (you could up the ante). If not, it’s not for you. Happy Earth Day 🐆🐾🌈🦋🌵🐅❤️ It has already been one whole year since Hayley Menzies 🐾 made her way to South Africa for a life-affirming experience on the ground at Wild Tomorrow, a charity dedicated to the protection of threatened and endangered species and the habitats they depend on for survival. Since then, we've been busy spreading awareness and raising funds through the sale of our charity tees and your generous checkout donations to help support these vital efforts. Below, we're inspired to share an update from the charity's founder, Wendy Hapgood, on what these contributions have meant over the past 12 months. Take it away, Wendy... 'First of all, thank you so very very much for raising over £7000 for Wild Tomorrow. We have had a very impactful year since Earth Day 2023. The major driver of species extinction is habitat loss. We are fighting back against this threat directly by saving and restoring habitat for threatened species. In 2021, our biggest news was the purchase of 100 additional acres to expand our wildlife reserve and create the Wild Tomorrow Conservation Center which is currently under renovation! We also reintroduced the Kudu, a native antelope species that was ‘missing’ from our reserve in South Africa. Hayley was on the ground for the initial group reintroduction, which was followed by a second group in October. This established a population of this beautiful antelope with its distinctive spiral horns, and big ears (huge news, we now have a pregnant Kudu!). These stunning antelope are ‘near threatened’ with extinction according to the IUCN Red List, with their total population estimated at 118,000 with a decrease of 20% over the past two decades.. We’ve seen nature at the reserve regenerating thanks to the efforts of our rangers’ daily work protecting its boundaries, and the Green Mambas’ dedicated work restoring habitat! There is no better proof of habitat protection than the arrival of new babies. Beautiful news in 2023 included the birth of 4 giraffe calves, baby Hippos in our river, lots of Zebra foals, plus our first Kudu calf which we are waiting to see! A lot of work, negotiation, and preparation including fencing upgrades was completed last year to prepare for ‘fence dropping’ with our neighboring reserve. This will mean we can finally welcome the following threatened species to our newly protected and restored habitat at the Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve -- African Savanna Elephants (Endangered), Lions, Black Rhinos, White Rhinos and Cheetah. This will be our big news in 2024 and couldn’t come soon enough! Love Wendy We'll be hearing more from Wendy over on Instagram. Tune into Instagram 2pm GMT (10am EST) where Hayley and Wendy will be live in conversation. (https://lnkd.in/eTCrTCuy) xxHayley #earthday #sustainablefashion #worldearthday #wildlifeconservation
