Gardens in Bloom WINNER 2024 🌻 Huge congratulations to everyone at Appleton Lodge care home in Cheshire, whose beautiful garden has been crowned as the crème of the crop by special guest judge Rachel de Thame! The competition was fierce this year, and we saw such brilliant engagement – with over 50 fabulous entries from across our care homes! 🤩 From beautiful blooms and fresh home produce to crafty community projects and wildlife havens - it’s been particularly impressive to see how much our residents are doing to support their local environment too. 💚 Well done again to our beautiful HC-One Gardens in Bloom - you have done your communities, and yourselves, proud 👏 #gardensinbloom #caringtogether #hcone #carehome #gardening

Presenting the winners of HC-One’s Gardens in Bloom 2024! 🌻 Residents and colleagues at Appleton Lodge care home in Stockport have worked hard on their garden this year, creating a beautiful space, the Appleton Arboretum, with an array of flowers, plants, wildlife, and even their own vegetable patch! Residents also brought their own plants, cuttings and seedlings from back home to bring a personalised touch to the Arboretum. We are pleased to share Roy’s dementia care journey as part of our Caring with Kindness series. Roy, who lives at Pytchley Court care home, used to love playing piano in his spare time, so Wellbeing Coordinator Judy arranged for a visit from a jazz musician to play at the home. As the musician began to play and sing, something remarkable happened - Roy's memories of playing the piano resurfaced. He joined the musician at the keyboard, playing a few notes with pure joy and reconnecting with his passion for music 🧡 Watch the video below to see how a simple moment of connection and care brought so much happiness to Roy, demonstrating the profound impact that music and kindness can have on those living with dementia. #caringwithkindness #dementiacare

Our green-fingered gardeners have been working hard over the summer, and we are now delighted to announce the finalists of HC-One’s Gardens in Bloom competition! 🏅Victoria House 🐝 who are attracting bees and butterflies in their new raised beds, fairy doors and bug houses. While using the power of the rain and sunshine to power their garden☀ 🏅Appleton Lodge’s Arboretum of flowers, plants, and vegetables 🥕 and their own sunflower growing competition🌻 🏅Lime Trees care home teaming up their experienced resident gardeners with keen pupils from their local primary school and Age UK's Men in Sheds project, making it a real community effort! 🤝 🏅Adelaide House creating ‘Caroline’s Blossoming Garden’ named by residents to honour a colleague who passed away, and designed to support people of all abilities to garden independently 💚 🏅Kirkwood Court’s amazing sensory garden, with specific zones to enjoy the sounds of nature, the colourful flowers, and the fresh aromas of herbs and vegetables It was a really tough competition this year, the standard of entries we saw was so high!
