We were chatting in the office about how life gets so busy, and how it's not always easy to make everyone happy. It can feel like you have to be everything to everyone. While it usually comes from a good place, we have to remember that sometimes, for our own sake, we need to say "no." It’s not easy because the intention is never to upset anyone, and I don’t know about you, but my "no" often comes with a deep breath. I understand that saying no is powerful because it gives you freedom and control over your life. It helps protect your time, energy, and mental well-being and need to remember that saying no isn’t selfish, yet I continue to struggle, what about you?

This morning, while driving to the office, I was listening to Ms. Ball on the radio. One of her callers, (who had also just arrived at her office) was asked, "What do you do at the office?" She responded, "Oh, just basic admin, and I make sure all our engineers have everything they need to do their jobs today." We need to shift away from this mindset of "just basic XYZ." Without this person's multi-layered support, the team of engineers wouldn't be able to assist the company's clients effectively. Remember, you never "just do" anything. Each of us plays a vital role in the company's structure and success. To the caller who shared her story, please know your work is invaluable. Thank you for the great tune and have a fantastic day!

“If a picture paints a thousand words…” Today is my 7 years anniversary with the wonderful team Headway Recruitment 😊. Working and supporting people on a daily basis I’m continuously learning and adapting. Something that struck a chord with me recently (following giving feedback from an interview) was using the term “constructive criticism” and as the song goes “If a picture paints a thousand words…” a lesser number of words can paint many more pictures… What do I mean by this, well, it struck me that a lot of the language and phrases we use can instantly create negative pictures, example, “construction criticism”, hmmm the first image that pops in the mind is that I have failed. (criticism the expression of disapproval of someone or something on the basis of perceived faults or mistakes.) ☹ Small change… “constructive observation”.( observation “the action or process of closely observing or monitoring something or someone.) 😊 I feel that this small change allows for more open conversations around what went well and where improvements can be made with support and guidance. What words or phrases would you change?
