"I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare so I set about doing work experience in physiotherapy, dentistry and orthopaedics." Alex's work experience led to a podiatry career. But we know it's not always easy to find placements. Here are some tips for young people on securing a placement. 1. Research NHS careers. You don't have to have chosen but NHS trusts will like it if you understand what roles are on offer. 2. Look beyond hospitals. There are GP and dental surgeries, pharmacies as well as community services and care homes. 3. Create a CV. You might not need it but it looks professional to have one. We have lots of more tips on getting work experience with our Smart Guide. https://lnkd.in/eY-eqxyr

"My goal is always to make the patients happy. I love it when I receive a smile and a 'thank you'." Jurinda is a pharmacy technician and she told us about her job and what she loves about it. "I didn’t get into university but worked as a cashier in a local pharmacy where I observed the pharmacy technicians serving customers and advising on different medications. It was at that point I decided to study pharmacy myself and took a two-year pharmacy technician course "My days at work are very busy and full of unexpected tasks. One moment I may be counselling a patient about their medication, and the next, as a manager, I may have to deal with upset or angry patients or a medication error or query. "Pharmacy is an exciting and varied profession to work in. I’ve already had many opportunities to change my career path, and am so glad I chose pharmacy. "My role at the hospital has taught me how to look after my team. I’m very proud to be working here and the opportunities I have to get involved in many aspects of pharmacy work."
