This week I joined Vicky Wright and a group of passionate healthcare professionals to talk about the future of pain management in Somerset. They already run numerous pain cafés supporting people with chronic pain, have the ambition for one in each Primary Care Network, and are working to shape a sustainable model for delivery. What has struck me the most about this work is how impactful pain cafés appear to be for patients. Patients report that they feel more in control, better able to manage their pain, and some are able to re-engage with important things in their life, such as returning to work.
