As Global Diversity Awareness and Black History Months come to an end, we launch the final instalment of our Diversity in Communications series here: https://bit.ly/3BkLOgg Thank you to Helena Boyce from Youbuntu for delivering this series of self-guided videos and worksheets to help empower us with knowledge and understanding, to provide us all with greater confidence when discussing and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). The need to embed DE&I into everything we do continues throughout the year, not just for this month of awareness raising. But we hope by sharing and discussing Diversity in Communications with your teams, it helps catalyse greater understanding of the significant role we all have, to achieve equity for all. #DiversityinComms #TogetherForBetter

Congratulations to our CEO, Mike Dixon for receiving a Highly Commended for his poem ‘Mission’ in this year’s Black in White Poetry Competition. Black in White shares poems and opens minds about racism in the workplace. Started by former journalist and healthcare communicator, Charlotte Shyllon FCIM, the annual poetry competition is open to all people of colour and allies, and this year’s published anthology of the winning and highly commended poems, ‘The girl from Niue,’ is the fifth book in the series. Responding to his Highly Commended, Mike explained: ‘I am flattered and delighted that the judges considered my simple, yet heartfelt poem, Mission, as worthy of such recognition, and thank them for its inclusion. I am very privileged in my role at the HCA to be able to work with many amazing DE&I advocates and member organisations to help our sector in its own journey to ensure a welcoming and equitable career for all.’ ‘The girl from Niue’ can be purchased here: https://bit.ly/3NIgb3p

It’s week 3 of our Diversity in Communications programme for Global Diversity Awareness and Black History Months. This week we are focusing on Racial Literacy. There is a new self-guided video available via the link below and an associated fact sheet that can be used to discuss and explore these topics further within teams or organisations. Led by Helena Boyce from Youbuntu the aim for this self-guided initiative is to help empower you with knowledge and understanding, to provide you with greater confidence when discussing and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in your working environments, your communication activity, and your everyday lives. Our lives are always busy, but please take some time out to recognise and celebrate our differences using these thought provoking videos as a catalyst. And if you missed last week’s video on diversity, it remains available via the same link. https://bit.ly/3BkLOgg Diversity in Communications has been developed by the HCA in partnership with Mearns & Pike Ltd #DiversityinComms #TogetherForBetter
