    Bringing people together.

This little blurry photo is Colette Burroughs-Rose taking to the stage at Heard Storytelling very first live storytelling event in 2017. She arrived as a supporter, an audience member, but when I struggled to get people on stage to tell a story, she took herself out of her comfort zone, and stepped on up and shared a raw, profound story, completely unplanned... It reminds me of how women showing up for each other is such a vital part of the fight for equality. Just like Colette that night, women stepping up for one another creates space for more voices to be heard and more barriers to be broken. On International Women's Day, I can’t let the moment pass without a shout out to my then-colleague now-brilliant business partner, thank you for stepping on up. ✊

  • With International Women's Day fast approaching, we're full of excitement to be partnering with some amazing companies that want to celebrate with authenticity and truly invest in the women in their business. Want to do something meaningful this year? Here are some fun (and impactful) ideas! - Give women the mic! (Metaphorically or literally!) Let them own their stories and amplify their voices—whether through live storytelling events (our fave!) or other creative ways. - Invest in their confidence. Help women speak with clarity, share bold ideas, and lead with impact—from presentations to pitches to leadership roles. - Allies, we see you! Level up your listening skills and create safe spaces where women feel heard and supported. - Go beyond a IG post or a IWD themed cupcake. (Okay, we won’t turn down a cupcake 🍰) But real change happens when businesses commit to long-term empowerment, not just IWD fanfare. Last year, we had the joy of celebrating IWD with Embryo, leading a lunch & learn on empowering female voices—and we’d love to bring that energy to your team! Let’s make this IWD unforgettable. 💜 Would you like us to run a workshop in your workplace? Let's chat! #IWD2025 #InternationalWomensDay #Storytellinginbusiness #storytellingworkshop #storytellingmasterclass

  • This is such a special project, and we can't wait for more to be revealed! The rich tapestry of Aldgate's living history is pretty incredible. Our whole team has felt richer for the time spent working with individuals from Aldgate on their stories. We love working with Aldgate Connect BID and can't wait to share more soon!

We are thrilled to be the first BID in the City to receive support from the City of London Corporation’s Community Infrastructure Levy Neighbourhood Fund (CILNF) towards a community exhibition in Vine Street. Our ‘Stories of Aldgate’ project aimed at celebrating the rich Aldgate community – sourced in collaboration with Heard Storytelling – is being transformed into a physical exhibition. Thanks to the support of City of London Corporation, we’re putting together a series of installations across Vine Street, stretching from Jewry Street, and America Square through to the Crescent. Work is already underway to bring this project (and the voices of our community) to life this Spring.    Activations like these are a key component of our Aldgate Connect Public Realm Vision and Strategy, and it's wonderful to kick off 2025 with this news. We hope that this project and funding will pave the way to further highlight Vine Street as a vital Gateway to Aldgate, marking an important step towards the long-term ambitions we have planned for this space.   Find out more about this project and hear from BID Director Zoe Barwick, and Keith Bottomley CC, Deputy Policy Chairman at City of London Corporation, here: https://buff.ly/3WRAUqj

  • Last week we had the pleasure of taking Calisen's ESG group chairs through our storylab storytelling workshop. We focused on the theme of 'Belonging', helping to build authentic connections, build trust and engage their networks with confidence and purpose. Over the course of the day, each person developed their own story, and gave us all a deep understanding of what motivated them to lead their ESG group. We feel so grateful that each person came with an open mind and were willing to be vulnerable sharing with us and their colleagues. Our hope is that the storytelling skills we shared will be used in the next boardroom meeting or panel to make sure their voice and story is heard with impact! A huge shout out to Stuart Mather who has been a champion of Heard and introduced us to Calisen and Wendy Ramshaw 💕

I’ve completed a course with Heard Storytelling on Mcr Met Rise Delving into the power spoken storytelling has across different aspects of life; transferable to any presentations, pitches, interviews, strengthening personal relationships and more! Learning from written models, TED Conferences, articles and interactive activities to assist me with publishing my personal story and finding authenticity in my voice. The variety of modules included: - Using structure to build my story; identifying the challenge, the impact, emotions developed and the lessons learned. Taking the audience on an adventure as we communicate. - By using ‘The Hero’s Journey’ narrative and also incorporating sensory elements (Sight, Smell, Sound, Taste) to be memorable and engaging. - The science of chemical hormone release when captivated by a well presented story which can allow us to found deep connections and empathy with others perspectives. - How to actively listen and reflect on other people stories. Not only paying attention to their words but the non-verbal cues, context and emotions presented. - These observation skills can ensure we remove bias and judgment - effective for inclusive decision-making and collaboration. I look forward to using these skills to educate and inspire. I will continue to learn from others stories as I believe the empathy a well spoken/written story, both fiction and non-fiction, creates is invaluable to removing barriers between people, places and experiences. Positive and productive solutions within our current social, political, cultural and environmental issues relies on the simple ability to change our perspectives and activity listen to the stories fighting to be told. - Jessica #storytelling #presenting #humansofmcrmetrise
