  • How can public realm enhancements and retail destinations revitalise Westminster's high streets? This was a perfect topic for our Deputy CEO Mark Williams to discuss alongside Daisy Narayanan MBE, Richie Gibson and Jaclyn Kaloczi at yesterday's NLA 'On Location' conference in association with Westminster City Council. Key takeaways? The power of collaboration, shared visions and culture as a golden thread to keep London's West End (and the wider Borough of Westminster) flourishing and relevant. #HOLBA #WestEnd #Westminster #Placemaking

Our latest quarterly real estate insights report is now available to view for our members (and non members). It provides an in-depth look at the performance of real estate in the Heart of London area and uses local data, intelligence and media monitoring to analyse consumer, sector and industry performance supported with insights from leading experts. Key takeaways from this report include: 🏢 The HOL area continues to be in high demand for office space with just 38 properties having available floorspace. With an average transaction size of 2,178 sq ft during this quarter this reflects the current lack of larger floorplate stock in the area. 🛌 The hotel sector has seen a decline during this period in occupancy, ADR and RevPAR growth but demand for hotel accommodation is expected to grow throughout 2024, largely owing to the anticipated halo effect from high profile events during the summer months 🐾 Footfall remained consistently high throughout the quarter with a slight dip in June but overall the number of visits saw a significant rise of 7.53% signalling the traditional influx of visitors to the area during the spring. 💷 Consumer spending in the HOL area increased by 2.42% compared to the previous quarter. Thank you Muniya Barua and Howard Dawber for this morning’s session. It was great to have the opportunity to host and for our CEO Ros Morgan to say a few words about the huge contribution made by the West End to the UK economy - particularly the arts and culture offer. There are enormous strengths in the West End and London to build upon but the infrastructure need to be improved if we are to see increased growth and prosperity for all. We want to see: ➡️ safer, accessible and affordable transport 24/7 ➡️ a reduction in crime ➡️ better public amenities ➡️ more innovation and flexibility around planning and policy that is focused on the area and the role it plays ➡️ designation of the West End as an International Centre for Culture and Entertainment We look forward to seeing the Road to Growth Plan next week and to further discussions when you visit us in October Howard Dawber! #HOLBA #WestEnd

Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth

Packed meeting with BusinessLDN and Heart of London Business Alliance this morning in the lovely Cavendish Hotel on St James’ famous Jermyn Street. Part of our engagement on Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan ‘s Growth Plan, we discussed the challenges and opportunities facing London. Emerging priorities of the Growth Plan are: 1. Building on London’s Strengths as a Global City 2. Supporting Innovative High-Growth Sectors 3. Helping Local Economies Thrive 4. Growing London’s Workforce and Skills 5. Delivering an Inclusive Economy 6. Building for Growth and Net Zero We are looking at how we ensure the best environment for innovation and supporting high growth sectors, because London is pivoting towards a centre of innovation, while also retaining and promoting our core industries and sectors which themselves underpin new sectors. People like setting up life science businesses at the cutting edge of tech in London because of the strong legal and financial services sector which provides a secure and nurturing environment, as well as our excellent higher education sector and health sector, the availability of skilled staff and the international connectivity. All this growth has to be inclusive, to ensure that all our people can access economic opportunity and reach their potential, and sustainable. Thanks to John Dickie Muniya Barua and team and to the brilliant Ros Morgan who gave a very strong message about the issues and opportunities for the Central Activities Zone and the West End. It’s hugely important to get a view from businesses large and small and from different sectors, so today was very valuable. Good to see old friends too including Tony Halmos , Tom Dobson and Ben Rogers.
