In the 5 years from 2019 – 2023, Western OEM helicopters transporting passengers for the offshore energy industry suffered 21 accidents, 10 of which were fatal. The data tells us the three most common causes of of fatal accidents from 2013 – 2023 are: ▪ The loss of control in flight (LOC-I) ▪ Controlled flight into terrain or water (CFIT) ▪ System or component failure or malfunction – non-powerplant (SCF-NP) In April, we published our 6th annual Safety Performance Report, the only global perspective on the safety performance of the offshore aviation industry over the past 11 years. For a summary analysis of the data, watch this video. As we reflect on ten years of HeliOffshore, it is crucial we keep data insights like these front of mind, so we can tackle the industry’s most urgent challenges together. We urge you to revisit the report’s findings and reflect on the actions you can take, both individually and collectively, to enhance safety on the front line. Reflecting on the last decade of HeliOffshore, our Chairman, William E. Chiles, commented: "It is a sacred responsibility that motivates us in our task to deliver a safer frontline. We do this because we care about our friends, their families, and those we are responsible for. Our most important duty is to make sure our colleagues arrive at work and home safely, every day. "United by this mission, our global membership has put in a huge amount of time and effort over the last decade to develop and publish recommended practices to deliver a safer frontline – covering everything from operational issues to contracting principles between operators and customers. To fully realise the benefits of the knowledge gained, we must continue to commit to action and implementation. "Through transparent and collective safety conversations, we can learn from each other, enhance best practices, and deliver the right actions to deliver real and lasting change in our industry. I am very proud of what we have accomplished over the past ten years.” #HeliOffshore #SafetyPerformance #FrontlineSafety #Collaboration #AviationSafety

Over the past few months, we have conducted group testing of engineering teams to better understand how experienced professionals make complex decisions under pressure. More than 60 team members from 15 of our global member organisations have taken part. At this year’s CHC Safety & Quality Summit, our Technical Director, Scott Allan MSc FRAeS, will introduce a new approach to enhancing problem-solving in aviation maintenance, backed by our latest research. Scott’s workshop offers a first look at strategies designed to sharpen decision-making and drive real improvements in safety and efficiency. These insights will form the basis of our Enhanced Decision-Making in Engineering (EDME) Programme, launching in early 2025. Watch this space. #CHCSummit24 #EDME #CognitiveReasoning #DecisionMaking

After a productive few days with the IOGP Aviation Sub-Committee in Kuala Lumpur, our Operations Director, Jim Evans, took the opportunity to visit the head office of Board Member organisation, Weststar Aviation Group. Jim commented: “I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with the senior Weststar team, diving deep into regional challenges and sharing updates from HeliOffshore’s workstreams. It's inspiring to see Weststar’s unwavering commitment to safety in everything they do. Thank you for the warm welcome and great conversations!" Jim and the Weststar team discussed regional challenges in the Asia Pacific region, including talent and critical parts shortages, which mirror those of the wider industry and HeliOffshore membership. Back in August, similar issues were also discussed in the first event hosted by our recently appointed APAC Regional Representative, Neil Seabrook FRAeS. Through collective safety conversations , together with our members, we will continue to identify the right priorities, supported by the right resources, to transform frontline safety performance. If you would like to join our next APAC regional meeting, please reach out to Neil Seabrook FRAeS. #safety #avaitaion #helicopters #offshore #apac

Today marks ten years since HeliOffshore’s inaugural board meeting – noting the start of our collective mission: to ensure no lives are lost in offshore aviation. Tim Rolfe, our Chief Executive Officer, said, “Over the past decade, we’ve made good progress through industry-wide collaboration. Thousands of dedicated individuals from over 130 organisations have come together to build a stronger, safer foundation for our industry. But as we reflect on this milestone, we must ask ourselves: why are we still here? Why are lives still being lost? “Safety is relentless work, and milestones like this remind us that while progress has been made, there is more we still need to do. The one action that is not acceptable, is to do nothing.” The challenges ahead demand even greater focus, action, and innovation. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to our frontline colleagues, whose safety remains our highest responsibility. The next decade will be pivotal for offshore aviation safety. Together, we can ensure we deliver on our promise to save lives. #HeliOffshore #TheNextdecade #Safety #NoLivesLost #OffshoreAviation

There’s less than a week left to complete this year’s fatigue management survey – make sure to get your response in by Wednesday 31st July. We want to understand more about the roles of culture and reporting within aircraft maintenance operations, after our 2023 survey identified a significant disparity between reporting incidents and perceiving incidents as fatigue-induced. Despite half of surveyed organisations reporting no fatigue-induced incidents last year, 38.8% of engineers reported that they, or a colleague, were involved in an incident or near miss where fatigue was a perceived factor in the last three months alone. We invite all rotor-wing and fixed-wing operators and maintainers to take part – even if you’re not a HeliOffshore member. All data will be anonymised as usual to HeliOffshore standards. The link to the survey is https://lnkd.in/emHFMdei. Please share it with the relevant team at your organisation. #FatugueManagement #Safety #Survey #GetInvolved #HeliOffshore
