Older Syrian refugees in Türkiye remain largely invisible in humanitarian responses due to outdated data and limited age-inclusive practices. Our new study highlights the urgent need for better data collection and targeted interventions to address their health, mobility, and access to services, particularly in the wake of recent crises. Older women face additional challenges due to gendered disadvantages, requiring specific attention. We must work towards empowering older refugees by ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. Read the full report here: https://ow.ly/zsOr50THBGu

As #Gaza’s humanitarian workers risk their lives amidst bombings and displacement orders, aid remains stuck at borders. 300+ aid workers have been killed since October 2023 – this must end. Safe, unhindered access and protection are non-negotiable. https://ow.ly/I5Jt50TIC2w

Two of the HelpAge global network members, Amel Association in #Lebanon and Juzoor for Health and Social Development in #Gaza, have come under direct attack amidst escalating violence. These strikes on humanitarian workers and facilities violate international law, threatening lives and obstructing vital aid efforts. In Gaza, shelters and medical points run by Juzoor have been hit, resulting in fatalities and critical injuries. In Lebanon, Amel’s education center has been destroyed by an airstrike. We call for the protection of civilians and aid workers, who are crucial to delivering life-saving assistance. The international community must act now to stop these attacks. https://ow.ly/9GvF50TIIHg

In #Gaza, one year of endless bombings, displacement, and fear has torn families like 82-year-old Umm Ashraf's apart. 'Life is nothing like it was before the war... Everything used to be sweet and easy. Now, everyone is scattered,' she says. Forced to flee multiple times, she now lives in a tent, struggling without her medication and disconnected from her children. Older people in Gaza are often invisible in the narrative of conflict, but their suffering is immense. Umm Ashraf’s wish? Simply to go home and live in peace. https://ow.ly/jx9a50TE4kl

"‘I came here with one suitcase, and my son has a bag that fits our entire life,’ says Inna, 68, who fled Bakhmut, #Ukraine after it was destroyed. Displaced, isolated, and struggling with her health, Inna faces immense challenges to her mental well-being. Confined to bed, she finds solace in creativity—making handicrafts from scrap materials to help ease the loneliness. For #WorldMentalHealthDay, let’s not forget the mental toll war takes on older people like Inna. Support and connection can bring hope, even in the darkest times.

Israel’s latest mass displacement orders in northern #Gaza are driving a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Over 400,000 people are being forced into overcrowded and unsafe areas, while essential aid operations are being blocked. Civilians have nowhere safe to go, and #OlderPeople, women, and children are especially vulnerable. HelpAge and other aid organisations demand urgent action: protect civilians and ensure unhindered access to life-saving assistance. A permanent ceasefire is the only path forward. https://ow.ly/1qBk50THWkY
