Hamelin's new initiative, the Ability Works project, offers comprehensive support for autistic adults and people with learning disabilities. This free employment program at Sutton Farm, Rochford, includes workshops, mentoring, CV writing, interview prep, and work experience. Participants also gain hands-on horticulture experience, benefiting their physical and mental health. Markie M., Employment Manager, emphasizes the importance of this initiative. Only 30% of autistic individuals are employed, despite 75% being capable and eager to work. Ability Works aims to change this by equipping participants with essential skills and raising employer awareness of the barriers these individuals face. The project provides practical experience and fosters social skills, preparing participants for any employment setting.
