After looking back at Cambridge Street Collective and Kangaroo Works, it is now time to revisit Elshaw House - another one of our visually striking projects in Heart of the City, Sheffield 👏 Although eye-catching with its black metal façade, the real stand-out feature sits within the fabric of the seven storey office building. The innovative design makes it Sheffield's first zero-carbon ready office block, achieving a five-star NABERS UK rating, an 'Excellent' BREEAM sustainability rating and an EPC rating of A 🍃 This is achieved through technologies including heat pumps, mixed-mode ventilation, cooled slabs and green energy supplies. It was a pleasure to host Viren Mistry, Johann Zuener Griffiths and four trainees from Adept Consulting Engineers Ltd on our Rotherham Markets project last week. We are proud to support our project partners with detailed tours around a live construction environment, allowing their apprentices to gather more practical experience on their learning journey 👏

Work is progressing well for our client Henry Boot Construction on the £36m redevelopment of Rotherham Markets on behalf of Rotherham Council. The scheme involves the refurbishment and redevelopment of the existing indoor and outdoor markets. This includes creating a vibrant new food hall and dining area on the first level above the existing retail space on the ground floor, in addition to new workspace for charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups on the second floor. While the refurbished adjoining outdoor market will continue to be used predominantly as a market for local traders, it will also be redeveloped for use as a multi-functional space to host exhibitions and community events. A new library will also be built to offer a café, meeting rooms and flexible gallery space.  Last week Adept engineers, Viren Mistry and Johann Zeuner Griffiths, took three of our eight apprentices, Adam Harrison, Matt Chillington and Will Dawson to site to see the progress so far at first-hand. Joining the cohort was Dziugas Klinga, currently with Adept on a year-in-industry placement from the University of Sheffield. Commenting on the visit, Viren said “We are involved in projects across a wide range of sectors from mixed-use redevelopments like Rotherham Markets and Barnsley Glassworks to large-scale industrial warehouses. Site visits allow our junior engineers to expand their knowledge in a really impactful way - being able to see the output of weeks of design work in real life and discuss the individual challenges and how they were approached in the design stage really reinforces the learning process for them.” Since 2007 Adept have supported 17 apprentices to Level 3 as they build their engineering skills and move upwards in their careers. #engineeringbettertogether

A year on since we handed over Kangaroo Works in Sheffield, the new community there is thriving! 🙌 365 high-quality apartments are supported by welcoming communal spaces including a roof terrace, co-working areas and a state-of-the-art gym. The build-to-rent project neighbours our other completed Heart of the City schemes: Pound's Park, Elshaw House and Cambridge Street Collective. The revitalised area provides places to live, work, play and eat 👏 Ridgeback Group | Whittam Cox Architects | ila

It is fantastic to see Cambridge Street Collective buzzing with activity after opening in May this year 👏 We are proud to have delivered the project, which saw us sensitively retain the facades to the front of the site and seamlessly integrate them into the contemporary new structure, which is now home to Europe's largest purpose-built food hall 🍽 Last month, the new popular venue also won the prestigious Best Food Hall at the 2024 British Street Food Awards 🏆 Sheffield City Council | Heart of the City | Queensberry | Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios)

We recently teamed up with several of our supply chain partners to deliver a pro bono office fit-out for local wellbeing charity, Golddigger Trust 🛠 💬 Beth Stout, Chief Executive, Golddigger Trust: "When we set out to open The Refinery, I remember saying that we could only do it by doing it together - that it would take Sheffield stepping up to show our city’s young people that their wellbeing matters to us, and we have been overwhelmed by how Henry Boot Construction and their partners have stepped up to make this dream a reality."
