About us
Herdify is a really smart refinement tool for media planners which helps them find even more audiences, faster. Teams who work with us consistently deliver higher-impact campaigns, outperforming those run on demographics alone. Active, motivated brand communities exist offline, in the real world. But how to find them? It helps if you know where to look. Luckily Herdify is here to help media buying teams locate these growing herds of brand fans... AND the potential new customers living alongside them. By laying our HERD data over standard audience segmentation we can pinpoint these primed people, down to a postcode. These magnificent herds of natural brand ambassadors – people who just like and use a product or service – are essentially operating as free regional sales teams. And as these communities migrate, new potential customers are being unconsciously influenced by what they see, hear and experience around them. We can track them down with a model which harnesses the behavioural science of herd mentality, elements of AI, and software that was developed (and used!) to forecast the spread of coronavirus. Like we said, clever stuff. Finding new customers this way means you are targeting more of the right people more of the time, avoiding wasted budget and wasted effort - whether that be a radio ad that falls on deaf ears, a press insert that goes straight in the bin or an online ad that gets scrolled right by; all the things marketers used to assume were unavoidable. All of this, while simultaneously making people in the brand communities feel seen as part of a tribe... or, er, like a herd. Win win.

Do you ever wonder why some marketing messages just stick? In a digital world overflowing with emails, there’s one medium that stands out for its ability to connect, persuade, and stay memorable: you guessed it, MAIL. As Rory Sutherland says, “You wouldn’t send out wedding invites by email.” Mail offers unique advantages in targeting, trust-building, and lasting impact, and it’s more relevant than ever. 1. Tap into Social Proof with Location-Based Messages When the UK’s HMRC tested adding local data to tax reminders—“9 out of 10 people in Herne Hill pay on time”—response rates spiked by 15%. This localisation amplifies social proof, tapping into our deep-seated trust in people “like us.” 2. Costly Signaling Builds Brand Trust Research suggests that higher-cost communication is perceived as more trustworthy. Mail’s physicality gives it weight—literally! Unlike a fleeting email, a letter signals real investment, showing the brand stands behind its message. 3. Tangibility Boosts Memory A study from the University of Stavanger found that people remember 1.5x more when reading on paper. Mail’s tactile nature means your message isn’t just seen; it’s retained. With Herdify, brands can extend the targeted reach of mail into the offline world. By identifying where community-driven behaviours thrive, we help you reach customers primed to act—bridging theory with action to amplify impact. So the next time you plan your direct mail campaign, remember #JustAddHerdify...

How Nike "F*cked Itself"... When Performance Marketing Goes Wrong - Nike's Costly Misstep... In a recent documentary, Mark Ritson didn't hold back, describing how Nike "f*cked itself" by focusing too heavily on performance marketing at the expense of long-term brand building. Here's what happened: Nike shifted nearly all of its budget into short-term performance channels, betting their D2C strategy would maintain momentum. However, by cutting out third-party retailers and neglecting the brand-building that kept them front-of-mind, Nike lost something crucial: its everyday presence in the spaces where people shop daily. Ritson: "They justified investment through ROI and moved all their money into performance. But they completely f*cked themselves, losing long-term brand health." This left room for up-and-comers like On or HOKA and others to fill the gap, grabbing share from light buyers who no longer saw Nike while out shopping. Takeaway for marketers: Performance marketing can drive short-term gains, but brand-building keeps you resilient. Ignoring it isn't just risky—it's costly. BTW - Herdify is all about helping brands grow by locating the right offline audiences for your brand, where herd mentality can do the heavy lifting. That way, you don’t lose those really amazing people who not only adopted your product/s but are more likely to actively promote your brand.

Why do you eat with a knife and fork or wear clothes? These are not innate human characteristics. It’s learned behaviour. Indeed there are cultures the don’t use a knife and fork, or wear clothing as many in the west would describe them. You do these things because of social norms. Simply put, everyone else does it and it’s easier to fit in than not. Some smart arse will make a comment about keeping their hands clean but my argument to this is ‘chips’ Everyone loves a chip. When you’re in a a McDonalds you eat chips with your hands. When you’re in a Michelin star pub with relative strangers you use your cutlery. Just watch people look round the table And gauge if it’s “eat the chips with your hand” vibe next time you’re out. Ok, so those are obvious ones. How about why do you wear the particular clothes you wear? Fashion is another word for social norm. What about the food you eat? Remember the “do your friends make you fat study”? What the people around us eat, impacts what we eat. If most of your friends are plant based or drink zero alcohol booze, you’re more likely to. Social norms are not a negative thing. If we had to make decisions on everything we’d be exhausted by breakfast time. Social norms mean we can get through the day in the safest way. Breaking social norms is hard, which is the single biggest barrier challenger brands have. It’s chicken and egg. People don’t know you and as there are fewer other people that know you, the chances of copying others is severely reduced. To increase this chance, you need to increase the chances of this copying happening, (social norms are just a smart way to say we copy each other). Once enough copying takes place, your brand can fly. If you want to find your audience which will copy, drop me a dm. #JustAddHerdify

In a world with more access to data than ever, why are brands still struggling to find customers? It's not that brands lack information—they're drowning in it! But raw data without context is like having a map without a compass. Brands can see the landscape, but finding the right path to connect with the right audience feels like wandering in circles. Many miss the fact that targeting isn't about collecting more data—it's about making sense of it. It's about uncovering the patterns that reveal who your real customers are, where they live, and how they behave in the physical world—not just online. And that's where Herdify steps in. Using behavioural science to map real-world interactions, we transform data overload into clear, actionable insights. Instead of endless circles, brands get a straight path to the audiences that matter most—finding not only who their real customers are but also where and when to reach them. Ready to stop wandering and start targeting smarter? Herdify's here to guide the way. #JustAddHerdify
