Caring for St. Albans rural park since 1996.
About us
Highfield Park is situated in St Albans in Hertfordshire. The Park is financed and managed by a charity called the Highfield Park Trust, which was formed in 1996 to create and then manage a new rural park for St. Albans. We are managed by a Board of Trustees and receive no direct financial support from the local authority. The Park was created from the grounds of the two former mental health hospitals that once stood on the site. Hill End and Cell Barnes Hospitals left a significant historical legacy on the area although some features in the Park predate the hospitals. The Park is now 82 acres in size and has orchards, ponds, meadows, woodlands and gardens to enjoy. There is also amenity land, which is used for football and other sports. We have objectives relating to the preservation of the historical features found within the park, to improve the natural landscape and provide recreational activities. To this end we host many community events throughout the year. All the relevant details can be found on our website.

We had showers and sunshine on our Mini Beast Safari this morning with Harry, Elliot and Kelly from Rothamsted Research who spent a morning with our bug hunters identifying the Mini Beasts in Highfield Park. All finds were returned safe and well to their natural habitat .

Richard, our Park Manager of 13 years, retires next week. Those of you who know Richard will recognise his immense contribution to the Trust during this time. To mark the occasion the Trust organised a small thank you lunch with the people he has worked most closely with. Thank you Richard, enjoy a long and happy retirement.
