👉 How many times a day do you compromise your values for the sake of convenience? Just one of many pertinent questions asked over the last two days at the #BCorpFestivalUK and what a festival it was! One of the best things about being a B Corp is the community and #LouderThanWords was the largest ever gathering of B Corps (thank you B Lab UK!) It was brilliant to come together and discuss all things collaboration, ambition and impact when it comes to creating sustainable, responsible business. Personal highlights in talks/ workshops/ discussions: 📣 Mary Portas OBE discussing the #greeneconomy, the say-do gap and how we can focus on trust and desire to bring everyone on the journey 📣Patrick Grant Community Clothing: Less, better, local, and focus on citizen needs not citizen wants 📣How to coach others away from apathy about our climate crisis and towards action   📣Big relationships = Big impact to think about how to strengthen key connections to amplify positive action (brilliant work from Sophie Bowen, COOK) 📣JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) and creating a just energy transition 📣The role of financial services in correlating sustainability with commercial value - great to see you Steve W.! 📣‘Speed dating’ to meet so many fellow B Corps (thanks Rob, Standing on Giants) Eloïse and I loved seeing so many familiar faces, thanks to all of you who made it such an fantastic event! #BCorpFestivalUK #bcorp #businesssasaforceforgood

When we conform to a decision, strive for consensus and shy away from critical thinking we fall into the trap of ‘groupthink’. This can lead to poor, unchallenged choices. Groupthink can have a significant, negative impact on the ability of a team to generate different ideas and make the best decisions. To minimise groupthink as a team: 1. Increase awareness – Know where groupthink is likely to appear and where our human bias is likely to influence our ideas and decisions 2. Challenge analysis paralysis – Evaluate all ideas, considering the benefits and risks in a logical structure to bring confidence to the decision making process 3. Encourage debate – Introduce strategies such as voting, thinking time and anonymity to make space for new and alternative thoughts and innovation Read our blog to learn more about groupthink, how it can influence your team and strategies to bring more constructive challenge and improve decision making for high performance. https://lnkd.in/eb98eUfy

Stress is linked to all 6 leading causes of death, but is it possible it has got a bit of an undeserved bad rep? Research has found it’s not stress itself that is unhelpful, it’s the way that we think about it. My latest blog shares how you can change your mindset about stress and use it to your advantage including a three step approach: 👋 Acknowledge your stress - this means being aware of your stress signature  💙 Welcome your stress - stress is an indication that you care a lot about something 💡 Utilise your stress - use it to reach your full potential! Higson helps individuals, teams and organisations deal with stress and burnout and build more positive mindsets in the workplace. If this is something you are interested in, get in touch!

⭕ How do we manage through change? ⭕ Especially when it's constant! The Kubler-Ross change curve shows the phases that we move through when we experience change. We can help ourselves to move through change by recognising where we sit on this model, acknowledging each phase and allowing for self-compassion and self-awareness. This also helps us to accept, integrate and benefit from the change more quickly. ❔ Think about a recent change you have experienced in your work, where do you think you sit on this curve at the moment? ❔What would help you to move through the change curve more quickly? At Higson, we are working with many of our clients on change leadership and managing through change. If this resonates and you would like to discuss further please get in touch!

Are you carbon literate? What does it mean to be carbon literate? Usually, we are faced with this drastic, exponential curve in the rather scary context of the climate crisis and the ever increasing global carbon emissions. But this oh too familiar shape can now be associated with a far more optimistic graph… The number of carbon literate individuals and organisations across the globe is rapidly growing, each actively committing to pledges to reduce carbon emissions and educate on the effects and causes of climate change. A huge thanks to everyone at the The Carbon Literacy Project, last Thursday’s awards evening was a night to remember. What an amazing celebration of all the progress that has been made so far and all the exciting steps, soon to be taken. What are you waiting for - join the movement! We are so proud to have organised and run the Free To Be Kids charity fundraiser event and raised £44,044! This is all thanks to the incredible generosity of so many individuals supporting this incredible charity. This money will enable Free to Be Kids to support more disadvantaged kids to feel brave, valued and accepted. A huge thank you to Kheron Gilpin for your fantastic speech energising us all, to Oasis Farm Waterloo for hosting us in your beautiful space and to White Light for making everything look and sound incredible. The Higson team put in a huge amount of work to make it all come to life, thank you to Em, Coran, Aggie, Oskar, Amelia. And of course a huge thank you to the brilliant Mike Gee, co-founder of Free to Be Kids and to the wider Free to be team!

Recently went on our Higson holiday to celebrate reaching our annual strategy goals. It was an amazing celebration and recognition for the work we have done in the past year. As a team, we vary how we recognise each other and incorporate the 4 different recognition languages, (not dissimilar to the love languages!), to make sure each person in the team feels valued. ✉ Words - Written or verbal. A simple thank you, a hand written card, copying their manager into a thank you email 🕰 Time - Giving our time to them. Going for coffee, team activities, coaching 🍫 Gifts - Physical recognition. Some of us love being given our favourite chocolate!  👐 Action - Doing something for them. An act of service, taking something off their plate, giving time back, or a creating a new opportunity… There is so much that each of us can do day-to-day to show thanks, varying our approach to create novelty and show thought and care. What could you be doing more of? Our Higson holiday to Brighton is an incredible form of recognition and loved spending time with our amazing team: Eloïse, Coran, Em, Amelia, Oskar, Aggie *Huge* thank you to Augusta Vivian for organising such a fantastic trip!
