Did you know that Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) account for 20% of the UK's transport emissions? 🚛 This is why we're the principal partner on GRIDSERVE 's revolutionary Electric Freightway Programme, working with businesses such as Samworth Brothers to help decarbonise the sector. Through the project, we're tackling common challenges like high costs and limited infrastructure by analysing real-world data to optimise electric HGV deployment. The Electric Freightway project is picking up speed as today we publish our second report showcasing the progress in the demonstration design and implementation of eHGV infrastructure 🚛⚡️ GRIDSERVE’s Electric Freightway is part of the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme. Led by GRIDSERVE , funded by the Department for Transport and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, it aims to lay the foundations for the biggest and most advanced electric Heavy Goods Vehicle (eHGV) charging network in the world. Report 2 provides an overview of the work the project has done so far in planning and implementing eHGV infrastructure, highlighting the progress made in bringing eHGVs onto the road in the UK, exploring the views of drivers and operational teams towards electrification, and providing an insight into some of the challenges that vehicle and charge point operators currently face in transitioning HGV to electric. Transitioning an HGV fleet from diesel to electric is a daunting and complex undertaking, and something that has not been done at scale before. That’s why we’re part of the GRIDSERVE Electric Freightway project – to provide fleet operators and government with the insight on how to make this transition. We’re collecting data from drivers and fleet managers, and telematics from charge points and vehicles to provide as much intelligence as possible to help decarbonise the haulier industry. Look out for our second report in the coming weeks, and find out more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/eHcJUkbu #ElectricFreightway #eHGV #hauliers #decarbonisation #logistics #transport #MakingTomorrowPossible Ben Kinrade

With the closure of the UK’s last coal power station this week, we’re one step closer to achieving net zero. Still, we must continue accelerating decarbonisation in other critical sectors like transport. Battery electric vehicles are key to decarbonising road transport, with technology already widely available today—even for heavy goods vehicles. While hydrogen is being explored, it remains more costly and is better suited for harder-to-electrify industries. Learn why we think EVs are key to accelerate decarbonisation and will boost the hydrogen economy 👉 https://lnkd.in/enzET6TV Hugo Seymour #NetZero #CleanEnergy #EV #Hydrogen #Decarbonisation #SustainableTransport
