Today is United Nations International Day of Families, and we need your help to get millions of separated children #BackToFamily. ❤️ 😢 Sadly, around 5.4 million children around the world are currently separated from their families. Confined in orphanages, even though 80% of them are not orphans. 😢 💥 Join the movement to help get these children out of harm’s way and #BackToFamily 💥 🙏 Add your name to the #BackToFamily petition today at backtofamily.org 🙏 Thank you Dame Kristin Scott Thomas – Hope and Homes for Children Patron.

About us
At least 5.4million children are currently separated from their families, shut away inside orphanages, even though 80% are not orphans. Orphanages expose these children to abuse, trafficking, and physical and psychological trauma that can last a lifetime. By working with families, communities, local authorities and governments, we’ve helped get thousands of children out of orphanages and back to family. And we also work to prevent the conditions that lead to family separation in the first place. Because a child needs more than food and shelter to survive. They need love, nurture and protection to really thrive – and that all comes Back to Family.

At the 2022 #CHOGM in Rwanda, Hope and Homes for Children was proud to be part of the push by governments and civil society that led to the Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform. A major milestone in the growing global movement to transition from institutional to family care. 2 years on in #CHOGM2024 in Samoa a side event by the Commonwealth Secretariat and Commonwealth Children's Interest Group featuring young people from across the #Commonwealth will bring this topic to life. If you are at the CHOGM, please do join us! The Commonwealth. SIDE EVENT DETAILS **One Resilient Common Future: where all children are cared for and protected. Accelerating implementation of the 2022 Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform.** **Wednesday 23 October, 1pm – 2:30pm (Samoa time) District Courtroom 1 (first floor), Samoa Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration Court House, Mulinuu Road, Apia (MJCA) ** ''At CHOGM 2022, leaders adopted the Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform, committing to advocate for child welfare and uphold a zero-tolerance policy against violence and discrimination. Despite political rhetoric emphasising family, child-focused policies often lack priority in resource allocation. Sustainable development hinges on protecting children, aligning with child-related SDGs to enhance well-being and community resilience. Failure to prioritise this area can lead to abuse and lost opportunities. Children and young people will share their challenges at the event, aiming to foster dialogue on accelerating reforms, and the role they play in representing our common wealth and future.''

🌍✨ On UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’re standing up for the importance of family. Poverty often forces families apart, tearing children away from their parents and into orphanages. But together, we can break the cycle. 💛 By strengthening families and communities, we can create lasting change, ensuring that every child grows up safe, loved, and supported. Together, let’s bring strength #BackToFamily. Learn more in our latest blog https://lnkd.in/eedYWnDs #NoPoverty #GlobalGoals

🌍🍽️ This World Food Day, let’s remember: it’s not just about food. It’s about the love and security of family. 💛 Every child deserves more than just food on their plate. They deserve the love, care, and stability of family. Just like Artem in Ukraine. 💛👨👩👧👦 Artem's mum, Olena*, struggled to put food on the table. Instead of helping, the authorities forced Artem and his siblings into an orphanage. But thanks to food packages sent by people like you, Artem found his way #BackToFamily. 🌱 Thanks for your support. ❤️ #BeyondFood #WorldFoodDay

Did you know that 80% of children in orphanages aren’t actually orphans? 🧒❤️ 😢 Sadly, around 5.4 million children around the world are separated from their families and confined in orphanages, even though 80% of them are not orphans. 😢 Award-winning Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko is supporting our mission to reunite these children with their families through our #BackToFamily campaign. 🙏 Please donate today at https://lnkd.in/eiM4keQG 🙏 A huge thank you for all your support #OlgaKurylenko #BackToFamily #ReuniteFamilies

🌍💛 Our friends at Family for Every Child launched an important initiative this week – Global Kinship Care Week. Around the globe, thousands of children who cannot be looked after by their parents often end up living with relatives or family friends. This is known as Kinship Care. 👨👩👧 Approximately 1 in 10 children are living in Kinship Care, but sadly, it’s poorly supported in many countries. As a result, Kinship carers are facing tough challenges. Kinship care is an important way to help get children out of harmful orphanages and Back to Family. Gabriela did just that, when she rescued her grandkids from an orphanage. https://lnkd.in/eP9AwGgr #GlobalKinshipCareWeek

Happy International Day of the Girl Child. ❤️ Today, we're celebrating the power, potential, and promise of young girls around the world – standing up for their right to a future filled with opportunity. 📍 Around the world, nearly 1 in 5 girls are still not completing lower-secondary school, and nearly 4 in 10 don't finish upper-secondary school. That's why we work to give children the chance to stay in school, and most importantly, stay with family. Children like Sonia* in India. Sonia's family almost fell apart after her dad died. Desperate, her mum considered sending her to an orphanage. Just so she'd have food. "That would have set me back in school, cut me off from my family, and ended my childhood too," Sonia said. But thanks to your donations, Sonia's family received all the support they need to keep her at home and in school. Where she belongs. That's just one of the amazing ways your support is helping to bring strength #BackToFamily. #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild #GirlsEmpowerment #EducationForAll
