Complimenting your children too much or too little - both are harmful in the long run, and what and how you compliment matters. Too much, and children will have an unrealistic view of their own accomplishments and true capabilities. They will be used to receiving what the real world will not be providing. Too little, and children will end up overworking and pleasing others to the point of desperately getting that much needed validation from their surroundings. Either way, both sides will end up suffering when it comes to their confidence...

In a world where we value IQ higher than confidence, it's important to remain conscious how devastating lack of confidence is, especially to a high IQ person: 1. They overthink everything 2. They over-apologize 3. They need constant reassurance 4. They overwork themselves 5. They don't know how to take a compliment 6. They brush off their achievements 7. They fear failure 8. They are conflict avoidant 9. They’re perfectionists (to a fault) Don't get me wrong, being smart and driven is a gift, it's fantastic, but you will only ever reach 10-20% of your happiness and fulfillment if you don't invest in your confidence because the list above will ensure you will always worry and be anxious, and that you are stuck in one place.
