We were delighted to get the opportunity to attend the Cambridge Forums Inc. Global Infrastructure Forum 2024, which took place in Athens last week. Our colleagues Andy Cox and Daniel Stock joined the two day forum, which brought together a selected group of senior in-house counsel from the largest institutional investors and preeminent private practice lawyers from across the globe, to address emerging risks and challenges in direct investments in major infrastructure projects around the world. It was great to catch up with a number of existing clients as well as build new connections.

Yesterday, our Central Eastern European M&A team together with Euclid Transactional hosted a Breakfast on transactional insurance claims in Warsaw.   Clients, legal and tax advisors joined us for knowledge sharing panels, as our speakers, Julia Mikler-Mieszkiełło, Drew Naylor, Jakub (Kuba) Grabarz, Karolina Olko, Daniella Smith and Mark Storrie from Euclid and Andrzej Pośniak from CMS Poland shared insight into the latest M&A claims trends, recent claim studies and discussed practical W&I, Title and Tax claims tips from the perspective of brokers, insurers and lawyers.   The two sessions, along with the Q&A, sparked insightful discussions, resulting in a successful morning filled with valuable information. With the growing number of insured transactions, it's clear that claims handling will play an increasingly significant role, making it essential to be well-prepared and understand the process' dynamics and requirements. Howden M&A, with one of the most experienced Claims Handling teams in the market, was pleased to share insights to help ensure we achieve the best outcomes for our clients. Last week members of our team from DACH, Central Eastern Europe, the Nordics and UK came together for a great couple of days at this year's EXPO REAL (Messe München) in Munich!   Over the course of the event, they were able to meet and connect with many clients and gain fresh insight into the real estate industry. Last week, our Secondaries team hosted their inaugural European padel evening at Padium. The event brought together secondaries professionals for an exciting evening of padel and networking, with access to courts, coaches, and opportunities to refine their skills.   The evening was a great success, with refreshments, a friendly padel tournament with clients and some impressive play! Insurance can be a significant point of contention between lenders and sponsors on a project financing.   Whilst Lenders typically require a comprehensive, ‘owner-controlled’ insurance programme arranged via a reputable insurance broker, sponsors often prioritise cost. This can mean an insurance programme which may not meet lenders’ expectations.   A skilled Lenders’ Insurance Advisor (LIA) is needed to bridge this divide, engaging in challenging negotiations, acting as a mediator and clearly communicating what is and is not available in the insurance market.   At Howden, our LIA approach is cooperative and proactive, prioritising lenders’ interests whilst managing their expectations and finding mutually agreeable solutions on difficult issues.
