The Podcast world is still evolving, but good to see it is collaborative in nature, so the rising tide lifts all boats. It was therefore cosmic to be asked to be a guest on the excellent Sports Agents podcast with Gabby Logan & Mark Chapman to talk all things Manchester United running out of cash and new stadium. https://lnkd.in/eqxhJ3fC

Driving Sustainable and Impactful Change Across Sports, Government & Business │ University of Manchester Presidential Medal For Social Responsibility │ Sport Positive Next Generation Trailblazer

This afternoon, the House of Lords votes on a key amendment to the Football Governance Bill - calling for environmental sustainability to be included in the remit of football’s new independent regulator 🌍⚽ The amendment - which has cross party support and is backed by Pledgeball, Sports for Climate Action and Nature at Loughborough University, the Cool Down Sport for Climate Action Network, the Football and Climate Change Newsletter, Forest Green Rovers FC Chairman Dale Vince, Shrewsbury Town player David Wheeler, and myself - would empower the regulator to: ✅ Monitor and promote the reduction of English football’s climate and environmental impacts. ✅ Ensure clubs comply with the Climate Change Act 2008. ✅ Secure the long-term sustainability of English football. 📅 The vote comes on the same day as the launch of Green Football’s Great Save campaign, spotlighting the growing risks climate change poses to football: ⚠️ 1 in 5 English clubs could be at high risk of flooding by 2050. ⚠️ Grassroots pitches already lose around five weeks of play each year, due to extreme weather. ⚠️ 120,000 fixtures are called off every year. Financial sustainability and environmental sustainability are inseparable. Government policy already recognises this - The Bank of England and DEFRA require other sectors to assess climate risks. Football must do the same. 🔊 Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb: "My amendment to the Football Governance Bill, also signed by a Conservative peer and a bishop, would secure the long term sustainability of English football by asking clubs to assess their environmental impact when making decisions." 🔊 Dale Vince, Chairman of Forest Green Rovers FC, said: “How foolish to try to separate financial sustainability from the environment version - given the lack of the latter contributes to the lack of the former.” 🔊 David Wheeler, Shrewsbury Town player, said: “It is clear that financial and environmental sustainability are inextricably linked, and to ignore such an obvious risk would be highly irresponsible. [...] I believe a failure to do so would incur a far greater cost.”

  • ❤️ Seattle Sounders FC today introduced “First Match On Us,” a revolutionary new fan engagement program designed to connect with the Washington community through a simple invitation. “First Match On Us marks a first-of-its-kind initiative within the industry that provides the opportunity for anyone to attend their first-ever Sounders match at no cost – complete with a pair of tickets, a specially designed welcome experience, free gift and more.” This is a brilliant initiative, bravo Sounders! 👏

  • 📰 Manchester United is to transform its corporate structure as part of a series of additional measures to “improve the club’s financial sustainability and enhance operational efficiency”. 📉 The transformation plan aims to return the club to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019. “As part of these measures, the club anticipates that approximately 150-200 jobs may be made redundant, subject to a consultation process with employees. These would be in addition to the 250 roles removed last year.” 🗞️ Statement - https://lnkd.in/eSgTGAAi #mufc #football #restructure #business
