It was an inspiring moment to reaffirm our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reflect on the progress we’ve made in advancing sustainability across our operations. Developed by Huhtamaki in close partnership with our key customers, our Bag Sealer is a smart and effective solution for a secure delivery of a variety of foodservice items. It comprises a seal composed of folding cartonboard and two adhesive strips which ensure that the food inside remains hygienic and cannot be tampered with during transit to the consumer. It is specifically designed as a replacement for alternative bag closure solutions such as stickers or tape which can be both expensive and time consuming and fiddly to apply. The bag sealer is made from fibers sourced from certified renewable sustainably managed forestry sources and is recyclable and, because there is no direct food contact it also contains 50% recycled content. It is available in Kraft brown or white and it is flat packed when delivered to the customer which means less logistic costs and CO2 emissions. At Huhtamaki, we use the TNFD LEAP Framework to guide our environmental efforts. This framework helps us map our value chains and identify key nature impacts and dependencies. Currently, our LEAP analysis covers 56% of procured goods, with plans to expand. Our first step was to map out our value chains and the industries connected to our operations. Using various databases, we identified our key impacts and dependencies related to nature in both our operations and upstream activities. We are committed to refining our processes and deepening our understanding of our impacts, dependencies, risks, and opportunities. The work on nature continues!
