Here’s one of Hull’s tastiest takeaways serving up tender chicken, the freshest pizzas, & banging burgers in West Hull This is Wagwan Chicken on Spring Bank West, which is offering a new extended menu to match Dope’s other takeaways around the city. The menu has moved away from its Caribbean flavours in exchange for bringing the best of Dope Burger and Dope Dough into West Hull. We tried a massive mix from the new menu, starting with these boneless wings and crispy chicken strips. They were absolutely outstanding; soft, juicy chicken wrapped in a crispy coating, made even better by dipping it in Maple Baconnaise, Aioli, Blue Cheese, or their banging Birria Broth, which you get a proper pot of. The Chicken G Lick burger and the smash chicken Black N Blue were cluckin’ fantastic, with all the ingredients coming together to create amazing flavours, and the pulled pork fries were stacked high with sauce and flavour. The pizzas absolutely slapped too, with both the Chicken Kiev and BBQ Chicken blowing us away, and the Sweet & Spicy Pepperoni and cheesy garlic bread were gorgeous. We finished with brownies and blondies with warm butterscotch sauce, plus four thick frozen milkshakes - banana, cotton candy, black cherry, and mint. So, what do you think about Wagwan's new menu? Let us know in the comments! Make sure you get the Dope Eats app before you go too, as it’ll save you a few pennies with some great 2-for-1 deals on there. You can find Wagwan Chicken on Spring Bank West at number 943. Before it was called Hull, the city was known as Wyke upon Hull – and it was once just a tiny trading settlement by a muddy river. Back in the 12th century, the area we now know as Hull was a small port called Wyke. It sat at the junction of the River Hull and the Humber Estuary, making it a handy spot for trade. In 1293, King Edward I bought the land from Meaux Abbey, renamed it Kingston upon Hull, and turned it into a royal port to supply his army, especially during wars with Scotland. So Hull didn’t just grow by accident; it was created on purpose by a king who saw its strategic value. Did you already know Hull was once called Wyke? 😦
