❗️ Trigger warning ❗️This series of videos discuss violence, knife crime, and loss of life. If you or anyone you know struggles with any of these subjects, please visit our website. On Wednesday 15 November 2023, Sachin Hawkins was helping to tidy his shared student house when Syed Hussain-Kazi instigated a verbal argument with him.   Hussain-Kazi held Sachin against the wall and stabbed him with a kitchen knife before fleeing the property.   Emergency services attended and Sachin was taken to hospital where he died a short time later from one single, fatal stab wound to the heart.   Syed Hussain-Kazi was sentenced to 18 years behind bars for murder.   Sachin’s mum, Shira, tells the story and the heartbreak that followed Sachin’s death. The detrimental impact that one knife can have on so many lives is devastating. In the last year and a half, six families have been left navigating a lifetime of heartache, grief, and despair after losing their loved one at the hands of a knife.   In the hope of saving others the same heartache, the families of those left shattered by knife crime, alongside first responders who tried to save them, and the detectives who then sought justice for them, share their own stories of the detrimental impact one knife can have on so many lives in a bid to tackle knife crime across our region.   Launching the campaign is Detective Superintendent Al Curtis from our Major Crime Team, and Trauma Coordinator Leah Dobson from the NHS who talk about the impact knife crime can have on people from all walks of life. This week is international Control Room Week, shining a light on critical control room staff to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role they play. Back for its second year, this is a week dedicated to celebrating the often-unsung heroes of the Control Room. Here in Humberside Police, our Force Control Room (FCR) colleagues are the first point of contact for people in need of our help. Their priority is to answer all calls from the public as quickly as possible and get people the right help, from the right person, as soon as they can. They also have to deal with traumatic and distressing situations on a daily basis. You may have heard that our Force Control Room has recently been recognised by HMICFRS as the best police force control room in the country. Whilst they are all one team under one roof – it is the incredible work of each and every officer and member of staff who have contributed to this success.                                                                                We’re proud to recognise the incredible work of our Force Control Room colleagues and we’d like to thank everyone for the part they play in ensuring our communities stay safe.

Over the course of September, we have been running our #TellSomeone campaign; a campaign centred around supporting victims of sexual offences to speak up about what happened to them. It doesn’t matter when that offence took place, or whether it was a contact or a non-contact offence, if you have been the victim of a sexual crime we will listen. Detective Chief Inspector Leanne Murphy from our Protecting Vulnerable People unit said: “When we talk about sexual offences people may naturally first think of rape or sexual assault, but sexual abuse can take many different forms and we take all reports incredibly seriously. “That is why the Tell Someone campaign is so important. It is helping us to raise awareness of all forms of sexual crime and encourage anyone who has been a victim of any kind of sexual offence to please report it. “This includes indecent exposure or ‘flashing’ as it is commonly known, being sent unwanted and unsolicited indecent images, and offences of voyeurism such as upskirting or someone filming you during a sexual encounter without your knowledge or consent. “Sadly, these types of offences are often one incident in a much bigger pattern of offending by an individual. By reporting it to us, you could be providing us with a vital piece of a much bigger puzzle, helping us to build the evidence picture and take appropriate action against offenders to protect others.  “Please don’t ever worry that what you are reporting isn’t serious, because it is, and it will be treated as such. All reports of a sexual nature are carefully investigated by officers to identify any sort of pattern of behaviour or connected reports.  “That phone call could be the missing piece of evidence that we need to take action and prevent that offender targeting somebody else, so we would always, always encourage you to pick up the phone and speak to us. “I appreciate that calling the police can feel daunting, but we have specially trained officers and partner agencies who can guide you through the investigative process and provide support along the way. You are not alone. “Sexual offences can occur between strangers, friends, acquaintances, current or ex-partners, or family members. “It doesn’t matter when it happened, or who the offender was, if something has happened to you that shouldn’t have, we will do everything we can to gather the necessary evidence and take appropriate action.” Watch Jamie’s video and read related articles: https://lnkd.in/erkYmfZF
