Tyseley: A Blueprint for Scalable, Cost-Effective Hydrogen Production Hydrogen infrastructure must move from pilots to fully operational, optimised sites that deliver at scale and cost-effectively. Tyseley Energy Park is a leading example of this transition in action. The HYCAP team with Christian Tabet of HYCAP ME, alongside Nick Bradford COO at Hygen Energy, were pleased to host Dr. Hervé Gregoire-Mazzocco from NEOM’s ENOWA X-Energy & Water Company, to explore how hydrogen production ecosystems can be optimised for commercial viability. Hygen Energy: Driving Efficient Hydrogen Production Tyseley is owned and operated by Hygen Energy, a HYCAP portfolio company, which is leading the way in cost-effective hydrogen production. Dr. Mazzocco highlighted Hygen’s operational expertise, particularly its ability to optimise production and drive down costs, making hydrogen more commercially viable. Tyseley is the UK’s longest-serving and largest electrolyser site, delivering reliable, scalable hydrogen production and dispensing: - 3MWe electrolysis capacity, producing up to 1,000kg per day—enough to fuel 67 buses - Onsite 350 and 700 bar dispensing for vehicles, plus a dedicated tube trailer filling bay - A growing network of off-takers, including Ryze Power, JCB, and National Express LLC - A real-world testbed supporting vehicle manufacturers, including trials with Vauxhall From Production to Distribution - Ryze Power’s Role: Ryze Power, also a HYCAP portfolio company, distributes hydrogen produced by Hygen Energy at Tyseley to commercial users, ensuring secure and scalable supply for operators leading the transition. Electrolysis: The Foundation of Hydrogen Supply Electrolysis produces hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. This flexible, scalable production method enables hydrogen to be generated on demand, near points of use, and integrated into transport and industrial applications. Scaling Hydrogen Infrastructure for Commercial Adoption: The challenge is no longer proving hydrogen’s potential—it is scaling infrastructure, reducing costs, and aligning production with demand. With Hygen Energy leading operations at Tyseley and Ryze Power ensuring distribution, this site is a working model of how hydrogen ecosystems can function at scale. Discussions with ENOWA reinforced the need to replicate this efficient, commercially viable approach globally, ensuring that investment in hydrogen infrastructure delivers real-world impact. #HydrogenEconomy #EnergyTransition #InfrastructureInvestment #NetZero #HYCAP #HygenEnergy #RyzePower

  • HYCAP's Capital Markets Director, George Saunders, attended Bankable Energies in London – a major global summit that united investors, project developers and policymakers to address the investment requirements for advancing the energy transition. George (pictured below far right) participated in the "Unlocking Finance for Renewable and Low Carbon Energy Projects" session, discussing key financing challenges in the renewable energy sector. He explained that innovative projects often struggle when attempting comprehensive senior debt financing without first demonstrating partial or complete project viability. "At Hycap, we engage banks early by focusing on smaller projects or specific aspects of larger initiatives rather than immediate full project finance. This approach educates markets, builds our narrative, and demonstrates our reliability, allowing lenders to develop understanding and grow alongside us and the sector." #HYCAP #RenewableFinance #CleanEnergyInvestment #ProjectFinance #GreenInvestment #BankableEnergies #SustainableCapital #EnergyTransition #CleanTech #GreenFunding #InvestmentStrategy

Hydrogen Innovation in Action: Scaling the Clean Energy Economy At HYCAP, we invest in companies that are making net-zero a reality — not in the distant future, but today. Few moments highlight this progress better than His Majesty The King’s visit to JCB’s World Headquarters, where hydrogen innovation took centre stage as part of JCB’s 80th anniversary celebrations. A key player in this transformation is Ryze Power, a HYCAP portfolio company, which supplies the clean hydrogen that fuels next-generation solutions like HyKit’s refuelling technology and JCB’s hydrogen-powered machinery. This ecosystem proves that hydrogen isn’t just a concept — it’s a practical, scalable solution for transport, construction, and beyond. HyKit, launched in partnership with JCB, is delivering crucial hydrogen infrastructure, including the hydrogen refueller that featured prominently during the King’s visit. This game-changing technology enables construction machinery to refuel seamlessly on-site, eliminating one of the key barriers to hydrogen adoption in heavy industry. Why does this matter? Because the shift to zero-carbon fuels requires more than just innovation — it demands a commercially viable, interconnected hydrogen supply chain. That’s why HYCAP backs businesses like Ryze Power, which is helping advance hydrogen technology and the real-world infrastructure to scale it. Hydrogen as a clean power source is just one of a broad range of low-carbon solutions supplied by Ryze to suit customers' differing decarbonisation requirements, including green electrification and other alternative fuels such as e-methanol and green ammonia. Jo Bamford, HYCAP founder and Executive Chairman of Ryze Power and Hygen Energy drives this momentum — from acquiring Wrightbus (fastest growing manufacturer of zero-emission buses in U.K. and maker of the world’s first hydrogen double-decker) to co-founding HyKit with JCB. His leadership is proving that hydrogen solutions aren’t just theoretical — they’re already transforming industries. The transition to net-zero is happening now. Congratulations to JCB on 80 years of engineering excellence and to our partners at Ryze Power and HYKIT for leading the way in scaling hydrogen as a cornerstone of a clean, resilient energy future. #HYCAP #HydrogenEconomy #NetZeroInvestment #RyzePower #CleanEnergy #HydrogenRefuelling #JCB80 #Decarbonisation

HYCAP portfolio co Liquid Wind partners with Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy for the establishment of an eFuel facility in Finland. Liquid Wind and Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy (TSE) have just announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of an eFuel facility in Naantali, Finland. The MoU indicates the launch of close cooperation and is one of Finland’s most significant green hydrogen projects supporting the clean energy transition and domestic competitiveness by utilising existing and large infrastructure. The eFuel facility is planned to be adjacent to TSE’s local power plant Naantali 4 which will deliver biogenic CO2 and steam for the production of eMethanol. In addition, the process and waste heat of Liquid Wind’s facility will be used for district heat, reducing the share of incineration-based district heat production by TSE. Once operational, the eFuel facility will produce 100,000 tons/a eMethanol made from green hydrogen and biogenic CO2 (160,000 tons/a). Final investment decision (FID) is planned for 2026, and the facility will be operational in 2029. eMethanol is a very versatile commodity that can replace fossil fuels in hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping and aviation while reducing CO2 emissions. Liquid Wind acts as the main project developer and has started the environmental impact assessment and permitting process. In addition, the parties will jointly explore the possibilities of ensuring a sufficient supply of renewable electricity to produce eMethanol. Claes Fredriksson CEO and Founder of Liquid Wind, says: “We are very happy to announce the development of our eFuel collaboration project with TSE. By entering this MoU, we are combining our companies' strengths to promote and accelerate the clean energy transition both locally and globally. Locally, in the city of Naantali, we will focus on Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) and the reuse of CO2 and waste heat. Globally, we aim to support the transition by allowing our off-takers to shift from fossil fuels to low-carbon eFuel produced at this facility.” To learn more about Liquid Wind visit their website: https://lnkd.in/e2trty4p #decarbonisation #emathanol #liquidwind #HYCAP
