We’re pleased to announce the arrival of our company-wide Cycle to Work Scheme! Sustainability is at the heart of our company ethos and we’re always looking at new ways to boost environmental sustainability. Between 2022 and 2023 the Hyde Group delivered a 9% decrease in its CO2 emissions and we’re confident the addition of our Cycle to Work scheme to a growing portfolio of green policies - initiatives that include electric company cars, electric delivery vehicles and investment in solar panels - will deliver an even greater decrease in our carbon footprint. Furthermore, the scheme, which enables employees to save significant money by acquiring a brand-new bicycle, will support the health of our workforce. Research by the University of Glasgow has shown that cycling can cut the risk of heart disease by 46% and the risk of cancer by 45%. We’re always keen to facilitate health benefits to our employees, and members of staff have already taken advantage of our gym discounts offered by the Hyde Benefits & Support programme. Next Tuesday, September 17th, we’ll be at the Avro Heritage Museum in Woodford to celebrate a major milestone – 100 years since the legendary Woodford Aerodrome was established! This iconic site has played a crucial role in British aviation history, from building aircraft like the Ansons, Lancasters, Shackletons, and Vulcans, to preserving relics and stories that showcase the brilliance of its past. The new exhibition will highlight the rich history of aviation across the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, shining a spotlight on the companies and people who made the region a global leader in aeronautics. We’re especially proud to be a part of this event, given our longstanding connection to Woodford. From the 1970s, when we crafted assembly jigs for the BAe 146 airliner, to our work on the RJ146 regional jet in the 90s, and the Nimrod reconnaissance aircraft in the 2000s, our history with Woodford spans decades. Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a crucial reminder that we need to break the silence around mental health. According to the Samaritans, shockingly, only 45% of people feel comfortable discussing suicidal thoughts with loved ones. This must change, and that's why this year’s theme is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide."  It's about breaking down the stigma that holds back life-saving conversations. Celebrating 50 years since its first flight, the Hawk trainer jet has been a cornerstone in aviation training since 1974, known for its innovative design and adaptability in preparing pilots worldwide. The Hyde Group has proudly supported the Hawk's development, including major work on the nosecone. We were responsible for the design and manufacture of the tooling for both component manufacture and assembly tooling, the manufacture of all components, all surface treatments and the complete assembly at the rate of one nosecone per week. During the past fifty years, the Hyde Group has established a strong presence in civil and defence markets supplying fixed-wing and rotorcraft systems with development parts and equipment, assembly tooling jigs, fixtures, operational tooling, specialist lifting, handling and transportation equipment, and test rig and test equipment. We’ve also delivered a vast range of products and services from structures and systems design to the design, manufacture and finish of complex flying detailed parts, integrated structural components and sub-assemblies, all covering long-term strategic support through to rapid-response AOG requirements. Today is the tenth anniversary of World Helicopter Day - throughout the world every day, people rely on helicopters for rescues, disaster relief, transport, firefighting, medical transfers, powerline maintenance, tourism, agriculture and many more roles. Tomorrow marks the celebration of National Aviation Day in the USA, the date selected to coincide with Orville Wright’s birthday. Jamie Stewart, Works Manager at Hollygate Fabrications Limited, has recently achieved the prestigious CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification through The Welding Institute. This accreditation is one of the most respected qualifications in the industry, recognised by both individuals and employers as a benchmark for competence and reliability in welding inspection. Hollygate Fabrications has proudly supported Jamie throughout his studies, and he’s now advancing further by pursuing the Senior Welding Inspector 3.2 certification. Time to reflect on this year’s Farnborough Airshow… A busy start to the week saw the Secretary of State for Business & Trade, the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, drop by the Hyde Group stand to meet with our team. We also met with customers, international trade delegations, governmental departments and ministries. Hyde Group delighted to support BAE Systems at the Farnborough International Airshow. Miyah Warden from Victoria Production Engineering Limited (VPE), the Hyde Group’s specialist manufacturer of precision-turned and milled components, was part of the ‘National Value’ zone on the BAE Systems’ stand at this week’s show. The purpose of the zone was to illustrate the breadth, scale and economic contribution of the sovereign combat air sector to the wider UK economy, highlighting sustainability progress and early careers programmes for apprentices and graduates. Miyah is a superb example of this, having started her career at VPE as an apprentice CNC machinist, she is now a Sales Engineer and a terrific ambassador for the Hyde Group.  As the largest private employer in Tameside the Group continues to lead on environmental protection, sustainability and the drive to net-zero operations.
