During the AGM in March, Trish Buxton announced that she would be stepping down as Chair and we are pleased to announce Mark Poole as the new Chair!
Some words from Trish:
"It has been a privilege to be Chair for the past few years and I am grateful for the opportunity in addition to being part of a great team who have managed a number of decisions and deliverables to keep THS:UKI not only stable, but succeeding and growing. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support and contributions. I would especially like to thank Becky for her continued support, hard work and dedication to her role as Chief Executive. I look forward to continuing on the Board and welcome Mark Poole our new Chair. Mark is already a fantastic board member so I am thrilled that he is taking over the reigns as Chair".
Trish remains on the board as the East Anglia Representative.

"It is both a tremendous privilege and challenge to take over from Trish as Chair as the society has been transformed following her appointment in May 2020. The many successes of her tenure include the new website, the rebranding of the society, two hugely successful delivery Remote Hydrography conferences and the continued success of HPAS, all despite a global pandemic and the associated challenges. None of this would have been possible without the tenacity, dedication, professionalism and diplomacy that Trish brought to the role. With a fully resourced staff team, a growing membership and a healthy injection of new faces on the board Trish hands over with the society well positioned for the future.
Following discussion at the AGM, the board are progressing a financial strategy for the Society based on a comprehensive review of our costs and income streams. This has already helped to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and clarified the income generation required to sustain the Society, including events like Hydro25, for which planning has begun in earnest. More to follow on this in due course.
These are interesting times for Hydrography, with new disruptive technology set to transform some aspects of the traditional role of the surveyor. With this context the purpose of The Hydrographic Society, to raise awareness of the science of surveying at sea, to protect and promote the status of the hydrographic profession and advance the education and training of practitioners has arguably never been more relevant. The Society exists for you, the members, so please continue to share your thoughts and suggestions with us to help shape our delivery".
