The November/December issue of IATEFL Voices is not only the last issue of the year but is the first to be digital-only, both for individual and institutional members. With this change, we have two new sections: Green IATEFL and From the British Council. Christopher Graham writes about his first few months as IATEFL Vice President in From the Trustees and has also written the first Green IATEFL article, asking various IATEFL members and Trustees what sustainability means for them. Alison Devine, the British Council's Head of English Connects, summarises some of the professional development opportunities available for teachers and teacher educators in our new From the British Council section. For our feature articles, we have the following thought-provoking contributions: - Teaching smarter: tips for employing artificial intelligence for academic writing by Peter Westerhuis and Sena Elibal-İçuz - Learning to speak, speaking to learn by Roslyn Young - A Class Conversation: working with what students say by Laurence Howells - Informal feedback strategies to improve teaching and learning by Laura Hadwin - Classroom management: practical strategies for the ESL classroom using Positive Discipline by Vanessa Rodrigues Bocchi Barbosa - Artificial intelligence in education: my journey, inspiration and ongoing exploration by Romina Sabia - Empowering English language learners: strategies for building confidence by Seda Yaman - Empowering language learners through a project-based approach by Ahisha Haneef - The theme of empowerment is taken up by some of the SIGs who outline what empowerment means to them and how they engender it throughout their SIG events and activities. We have two lesson plans in our For the Classroom offering, one from Mohamed Ramadan and the other from Ignacio González. Mohamed presents a lesson plan about productivity with Ignacio focusing on natural disasters in the context of global warming. We hope you enjoy this issue of IATEFL Voices. If you have any questions or comments, or would like to contribute to a future issue, please get in touch with Derek Philip-Xu by emailing editor@iatefl.org.
