IATEFL members: enjoy the November/December issue of IATEFL Voices! It's the last issue of the year AND the first to be digital-only, for individual & institutional members. With this change, there are two new sections: Green IATEFL and From the British Council. Christopher Graham writes about his first few months as IATEFL Vice President in From the Trustees and has also written the first Green IATEFL article, asking various IATEFL members and Trustees what sustainability means for them. Alison Devine, the British Council's Head of English Connects, summarises some of the professional development opportunities available for teachers and teacher educators in our new From the British Council section. For feature articles, some thought-provoking contributions: Teaching smarter: tips for employing artificial intelligence for academic writing by Peter Westerhuis and Sena Elibal-İçuz Learning to speak, speaking to learn by Roslyn Young A Class Conversation: working with what students say by Laurence Howells Informal feedback strategies to improve teaching and learning by Laura Hadwin Classroom management: practical strategies for the ESL classroom using Positive Discipline by Vanessa Rodrigues Bocchi Barbosa Artificial intelligence in education: my journey, inspiration and ongoing exploration by Romina Sabia Empowering English language learners: strategies for building confidence by Seda Yaman Empowering language learners through a project-based approach by Ahisha Haneef The theme of empowerment is taken up by some of the SIGs who outline what empowerment means to them and how they engender it throughout their SIG events and activities. There are 2 lesson plans in the For the Classroom offering, one from Mohamed Ramadan and the other from Ignacio González. Mohamed presents a lesson plan about productivity with Ignacio focusing on natural disasters in the context of global warming. Any questions or comments? I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to present my plenary talk, "Connecting Islands of Practice: Transforming TESOL Professional Development through Action Research," at the TDSIG Web Carnival 2024 on Teacher Change! 🙌 A heartfelt thank you to the IATEFL TDSIG (brilliantly led by Cecilia Lemos Harmer and James Taylor - and a special shoutout to its amazing committee members for their kind support: Elizabeth Coleman, Helen Slee, Kristina Novik, Jake Kimball... and all the other contributors to TDSig) for trusting me with this platform and to the incredible audience who participated. Your insights, questions and support truly made this experience memorable and rewarding. It was a pleasure to share my passion for collaborative action research and discuss how we can collectively elevate TESOL professional development to foster sustainable, reflective practices. Once again, TDSig members have shown engagement in shaping the future of education, one reflective step at a time!💡 May we continue building stronger, more connected TESOL communities. Let’s keep the momentum going! 🚀 #TDSIG #WebCarnival2024 #TESOL #ProfessionalDevelopment #ActionResearch #TeacherChange #Grateful #ThankYou
