Always good to get back home to Wales following a very successful activation event Worldchefs - World Association of Chefs Societies Congress 2024 in Singapore with our delivery partners ICCWales The handing over of the Congress Bell from Singapore to Wales was for us one of the highlights and it was very well recieved by the delegates. To secure this world event for Wales is a career highlight and a firm date in my diary for 2026 make sure that you get this in your diary 16th-19th May 2026 ICCWales in the city of Newport. Without partners none of this would be possible and our activation in Singapore was supported by Cygnet Gin and Penderyn Distillery which was enjoyed by the delgates from around the world. We are honoured to have the support of our Ambassador Katherine Jenkins and to have the opportunity to showcase our promotional video with the soundtrack of the 2026 Congress and Expo Anthem "When you return to Wales" had an emotional impact on all present. In the coming weeks Worldchefs - World Association of Chefs Societies will launch the 2026 Congress and Expo website and we will keep you all updated on progress. If you had to put a number - on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the scariest) - to how uncomfortable it is to step out of your comfort zone, what would it be? And how do you proceed? Do you proceed? I experienced an 8 yesterday as I was readying to embark on the journey to the Procurex Wales event held at the ICC Wales. ‘I don’t belong there’, ‘What’s the point?’ and other things alike were swirling in my head. It took a lot of convincing of the self as well as a fair bit of focused and mindful breathing to calm the nervous system that was about to kick off the stress response process. When the shuttle coach driver stuck his head out and shouted out ‘ICC’, I seriously questioned whether I should get on it or not. I did. And when he pulled up just outside the entrance, again, I questioned if I should get out. I did. And it just so happened that the first talk I attended was that about collaboration by the one and only Lesley Williams from Welsh ICE. Not only did I learn new things about what a consortium is and how to get it right, but I found my discomfort levels drop closer to 5 or even 4 having met a familiar and friendly face. That drop in ‘scariness’ levels allowed me to explore further. Not only explore but engage, too! Which lead me to an inspiring encounter with Toni Coombs from Working Minds. A beautiful mission, an essential service. By the end of our conversation, my discomfort levels dropped to 1. Even though I’ve been through such stepping out of my comfort zone cycles time and time again, I still cannot help but marvel at how the moment we take that first step, beautiful things just happen. They really do. * Have you ever had to shake off a scary thought of what would’ve been - or, rather, would NOT have been - if you haven’t proceeded out of your comfort zone? * Also, the coolest shuttle coach and driver I ever met!

ICC Wales recently hosted an engaging workshop led by ABPCO co-chair Sammy Connell known for her expertise in event planning and leadership at NASUWT. This workshop was a valuable opportunity for the ICC Wales sales, marketing, and operations teams, to gain insight into the layers of working with association events and the contrasting roles of in-house and agency Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs). Interactive roundtable discussions allowed ICC Wales team members to explore how they can enhance value for associations and examine ways to exceed client expectations, even within budget constraints, and shared ideas on how ICC Wales can refine proposals to stand out. The session also covered legacy-building initiatives that encourage venues and associations to support meaningful community projects, with a focus on initiatives within Newport to create lasting social benefits through strategic collaborations. This workshop provided our team members with invaluable knowledge around elevating standards in the event industry, fostering trust and connection with clients, and aligning with best practices across the sector.
