📢 Adam is Chair of the London and South East Coast Member Group and is hosting the group's annual meeting next Tuesday. Find out more and sign up to attend...
Proud and excited to say that at the London and SE Coast Member Group AGM Tues 1st April we have a great talk on Batteries and Alternative Energy sources being delivered by Professor, Paul Shearing Professor of Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Department of Engineering Science and Director of the ZERO Institute at Oxford University. In this highly relavent talk he will outline the engineering behind the current situation, future research to develop batteries and alternative energy storage as well as the wider sustainability aspects such as raw material scarcity. Please come along to the AGM in person at UCL where you can meet Paul as well as hear about the plans for the Membergroup and contribute your own ideas both in the meeting itself and afterwards over food and drinks. This will also be a great opportunity to meet the hard working committee as well, Gavin Vicknarajah Maria Astrid Centeno Maria Kalli, PhD Despoina Rigou Charles Brown Sion Griffiths Colin Tamsett Andrea Di Lena Alan McCulloch (AMIChemE) Phil Mason Louis SHL Nguyen Alternatively you can register for the event to attend remotely. #Sustainability 🌱 #ClimateChange 🌍 #ChemicalEngineering 🔬 #Networking 🤝 #IChemE #UCL Please see the synopsis of the talk from Paul below: The Li-ion battery was one of the transformative technologies of the 20th century and promises to have wider impact in the 21st century with the rapid uptake of electric vehicles and the deployment of grid scale energy storage. Energy storage will be a cornerstone in achieving decarbonisation across a range of sectors, and match-making the right battery with the right application provides a compelling opportunity to contribute to a Net Zero economy. Eight years since the foundation of The Faraday Institution in the UK, this talk will review the current state of the art with reference to the portfolio of research activities now underway, and explore progress and emerging themes in battery science and engineering. As technology, investment, and manufacturing scale-up in the sector accelerate at unprecedented pace, where are we today?
