🦔 Protect our Hedgehogs this Autumn! 🦔 As autumn sets in, it's crucial to keep our hedgehogs safe, especially during bonfire season. We’ve lost a third of all our hedgehogs since the millennium. Here are some essential tips to ensure these adorable creatures stay safe: Move Bonfire Materials: On the day of your bonfire, move the materials to a clear area to check for hedgehogs. Check Carefully: Just before lighting, carefully check the bonfire, especially the base, using a pole or broom. Offer an Escape Route: Light the bonfire from one side only to give hedgehogs a chance to escape. Hedgehogs often hide in the center and bottom of bonfires, so it's important to be thorough. Let's make sure our hedgehogs stay safe and sound this season! #HedgehogSafety #AutumnTips #RSPB #HedgehogStreet #WildlifeCare

🌿 Countryside Team Hosts RSPB Senior Ecologists in Bromley! 🌿 Recently, our countryside team in Bromley had the pleasure of welcoming senior ecologists Nigel Symes, John Day, and Netty Ribeaux from the RSPB. We discussed the management of bogs, heathlands, and ponds at Keston Common, and explored opportunities across Crofton Woods and various sites around the Borough. Their decades of expertise shed new light on our sites, giving us fresh perspectives on managing these important natural habitats. During the visit, we spotted fascinating wildlife: wasp spiders in Keston bog, a kingfisher at Keston ponds, and the eggs of the mottled sedge caddisfly at Crofton Woods—a Site of Special Scientific Interest, renowned as the largest wet woodland in Greater London. A big thank you to Nigel, John, and Netty for sharing their invaluable knowledge with us! #CountrysideManagement #RSPB #Bromley #WildlifeConservation #EnvironmentalScience #NatureLovers

🌸 Exciting News! 🌸 Following the Britain in Bloom judging tour on 15th August 2024, we are thrilled to announce that Loughborough in Bloom has once again been awarded the coveted Gold Medal at last weeks Britain in Bloom Award Ceremony in Manchester!   While Bath took home the title of Small City category winners and overall champions of this year’s 60th Britain in Bloom campaign, we are especially proud to share that Loughborough in Bloom also received a special discretionary award for ‘Overcoming Adversity’. This award recognises how the community came together during the heavy flooding earlier this year. The judges were impressed by the remarkable recovery efforts, noting that the damage was so well repaired that it was almost unnoticeable during their tour.   Nicola Clarke, idverde Community Engagement Officer, expressed her pride: ❝This is an absolutely incredible achievement of which everyone involved with Loughborough in Bloom should be so very proud, and in my opinion, is so very richly deserved. From experience as a regional Britain in Bloom judge, I know that Gold medals and special awards are not easily won. They are the result of a lot of hard work and continued dedication in building a fantastic team of like-minded volunteers, dedicated partnership working between CBC and its service providers - idverde and Serco - as well as local partnerships with Loughborough University and the BID, overcoming obstacles and going out in all weathers to make a difference throughout Loughborough on the ground with such enthusiasm and a ‘can do’ attitude.❞   A big congratulations to everyone involved for this fantastic achievement. It’s always special to have our hard work recognised and rewarded by our peers. However, what truly stands out is that the efforts of everyone involved with Loughborough in Bloom are driven by a genuine care for the town and community, not just for the praise or medals. Now that is something truly special. 💚 #LoughboroughInBloom #BritainInBloom #CommunitySpirit #GoldMedal #OvercomingAdversity #ProudMoment #TeamWork 🌼🌿 Charnwood Borough Council

Well done to our Warwick team in collecting over 70 tonnes of fly-tipping in just 3 months! The idverde team, which began operations in June, addresses fly-tipping by proactively identifying and clearing waste before it is reported to the council. This approach significantly reduces the time required to manage and remove fly-tips. Fly-tipping, an illegal activity, not only spoils residential areas but also creates hazardous environments that can lead to serious injuries, pollution, and harm to wildlife. It’s a critical issue that requires our immediate attention. Well done to everyone involved for their hard work. 🌟 Night Bat Walks Across Bromley: A Wild Success! 🌟 From September 6th to October 4th, BEECHE, High Elms embarked on an enchanting journey across Bromley, visiting eight stunning parks including Priory Park, Scadbury Park, Coney Hall and Chislehurst. Each Friday and Saturday night, we had the chance to explore the nocturnal world of bats with the community, using bat detectors and joining guided night bat walks! Over these eight magical nights, we were thrilled to have 294 participants join us in discovering the wonders of Bromley's night life. One Bromley resident said 'My six year old daughter and her dad went on a bat walk in Kelsey Park and had such a wonderful time. She loved learning from the experts about the different animals that come out at night, and having the chance to try out a bat detector for herself. They both loved it and would definitely go again. Highly recommend for anyone interested in exploring local wildlife!' Our goal was to shed light on these elusive creatures, teaching our visitors about the importance of bats as indicator species. We hope we inspired many to get more involved, whether by joining a local bat group, installing bat houses in their gardens, or participating in survey work. By educating people on these often-overlooked mammals, we aim to create a better environment for these protected species. A huge thank you to our dedicated team for making this event such a triumph. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and can’t wait to do it again next year! 🦇💫 #BatWalk #NightLife #Bromley #CommunityEvent #WildlifeEducation #ProtectBats
