Immediately competitive, Jake made his mark by taking a win in the Jack Sears trophy in his very first race, following that up with a further podium finish in the second race. Following his successful 2019 campaign, Jake joined the BRDC SuperStars programme and proved himself as a leading contender in the BTCC combined with MB Motorsport. Could two local teams in the English football play at the same ground?! 😳 A really fascinating insight into how two rival teams with two completely different mentalities co-exist in one stadium, as we visited the #SanSiro home of AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano! 🔴⚫️🔵⚫️ The rivalry is real but the respect is very much there! 🤝 The changing rooms tell the differences the best as #ACMilan is very much based around the star of player to empower them with individual seats for each player, whereas #InterMilan has benches for making everyone feel part of the team! #Inter is also interesting as the corridor they walk through on their way to pitch has pictures of the shirts of legends of the club but leave one blank to tell the player walking through it that this could be them one day! 📈🥇 Two hugely successful clubs over the years so it just shows there isn’t a fixed method when it comes to a #Leadership style and how you engage your team! 🤜🤛 However, I don’t see this happening with Aston Villa Football Club and Birmingham City anytime soon 😉 I also nearly grabbed a #Euro2020 medal and the #WorldCup but like England Football failed at the last hurdle! 🏆👀❌ Let’s hope newly appointed Thomas Tuchel can do a better job than me! 😂 #FootballRivalries #Football #LessonsFromSport #NotAlwaysMotorsport #Engagement

Sadly I wont be replacing Lewis Hamilton anytime soon! 🏎️💨 However, it was a pleasure and a privilege to drive a Ferrari 488GTB around Monza yesterday! 🇮🇹 I spend a lot of time trackside with teams and their partners, so it was nice to get out there on track and be a driver for a day! 🏁 It’s been great to get an insight into one of the most historic and big brands in the #automotive and #motorsport over the last few days. It’s been an absolute privilege to watch this project grow both on and off track! 📈🏆🥇 From Mark Blundell returning to racing and joining the BTCC grid in 2019, then Alex Watts and MBP seeing the opportunity to form MB Motorsport a year later with Jake Hill as their lead driver. When I opened this badge in my Villa membership for the season I genuinely thought “When am I going to wear this?!”. However today feels like the right day! 👍 Well done Aston Villa Football Club for beating FC Bayern München last night in the Champions League! 1️⃣-0️⃣ But why am I posting this on LinkedIn? 🤔 Well 6 years ago yesterday you could probably say it was one of the lowest points as a Villa fan as, ironically, it was the anniversary of then manager Steve Bruce having a cabbage throw at by a fan in the stands as we played Preston North End in the Championship, England’s second tier! 🤦🏻♂️ Now it could be worse, (after all you could be a Birmingham City fan 😉) but this would end up being Bruce’s last game and it was the first step to Villa’s steady climb to yesterday’s win. 📈 I maybe biased as a Villa fan and also as the Grandson of one of their goalkeepers in the 1930s, however, this climb shows how marginal gains can create success as each season the club invested in the right areas, got the right people onboard and bit by bit it grew. It didn’t always work (thanks Steven Gerrard!) but they learnt from their mistakes and adapted. After all if Villa accepted #Cabbagegate as the norm then that is what they were always going to get (if not worse!) but new owners came onboard saw the potential, drew a line in the sand and moved forward - something I repeatly tell my clients. Whatever the circumstances are good or bad - it’s what you do next that counts! 💪 Now it’s only one game and success can go as quickly as it came but I believe that if you build something in the right way step by step you can achieve continued success - so let’s see! 🏆👀 In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy this moment - so up the Villa! 👊 #NotAlwaysAboutMotorsport #Leadership #Teamwork #Performance

As a consultant you don’t usually get the opportunity become part of a team but for the last 2 years I’ve had the privilege to have Boostworks as one of my clients and have really felt part of one. 🤝 What was meant to start as three months putting in the foundations of an HR function evolved into something rather special as what was known as peoplevalue became Boostworks and working their two days a week, we set out to instil the incredible engagement they work on with their clients - internally! Everyone worked so hard as the business transitioned with a completely new brand, platform and ethos. Tough decisions were made throughout, some people came and went, but most thrived in this environment and the business never lost its spirit and determination to create something special. However, the trick with consultancy is to leave something better than when you joined and hand over the keys to the organisation to run it when the foundations have been built, so earlier this year their then CEO Andy and I sat down and we decided it was time for me to step away from the day to day! As everyone knows I spin many plates with all of Motorsport To Business®️powered by Ignition’s other fantastic clients and partners, and with taking on the Chairmanship of halow project - it needed someone who could give it their full attention. But I wasn’t just going to let anyone run it and after months of searching (this process started in February and made the Apprentice tv show look like a piece of cake!) I believe in Sarah Grant Assoc CIPD they have this and I know she’ll build on what we have put in place with HR function and take it to the next level! 📈🏆 I’ll always remember the first day I walked into Andy’s office and I said how great and welcoming everyone was and he said “I know”, at the time I thought that was quite a confident statement but I now completely gets what he meant. Boostworks has one of the best team spirits and ethos I have ever seen that I believe now truly lives it values - and as you’ll see on their website they have some pretty big ones! Thanks to everyone for a fantastic last two year but in particular Andy Caldicott and lately new CEO Joanne Werker - both of whom have been great to work with and hugely supportive. From BoostFest to the Crystal Maze and everything in between it’s been awesome! It isn’t goodbye as Boostworks will always remain an important part of our Ignition client network but it’s a bittersweet feeling as I’ll miss seeing the team week in week out, yet knowing it’s the right time to hand it over to someone else! On the plus side is I now get to eat a complimentary doughnut without the marketing team looking disapprovingly at me, as Boostworks is not about giving people stuff it’s about making them thrive! 😁🍩 (I’ll put the link to their video in the comments below so this joke makes sense for everyone outside of Boostworks 😂👇)

Let’s talk about disability in the workplace! I was very proud today to bring together a group of fantastic business leaders at Galvin La Chapelle in London to talk about the barriers we face when employing people with a learning disability, and understand what we at halow project can do to support organisations who want to do more! Genuinely it was one of the most engaging and insightful discussions I have been a part of! 🙌 But this is just the beginning, with only 6% of people with a learning disability in the workplace, we can’t leave this conversation at the lunch table and each one of us took one lesson and one commitment that we are going take back into the workplace to action! 💪 Who is with us?!
