As #biofoulingmanagement continues to play a pivotal role in the sustainability of the maritime industry, we’re thrilled to share our latest video showcasing key initiatives in this area. Recently, the IMO-NORAD TEST Biofouling project and its sister project GEF-UNDP-IMO GloFouling Partnerships, in collaboration with our regional partners— MTCC Caribbean MTCC Latin America and COMISION PERMANENTE DEL PACIFICO SUR—successfully executed major biofouling events in Panama, including a training course on biofouling risk assessment and inspection methodologies, in-water cleaning live operation and a dedicated Women in Maritime workshop. Biofouling not only impacts vessel efficiency but also poses risks to marine ecosystems by facilitating the spread of invasive species. In this video, we explored cutting-edge strategies and highlighted how regional cooperation is helping tackle these challenges head-on. As the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC-82) convenes this week, it's the perfect time to shine a light on the critical importance of biofouling management and the global efforts to ensure cleaner oceans and more efficient shipping.
