Supporting people’s mental health through pregnancy and the postpartum period 💜 Sarah Taha is a consultant perinatal psychiatrist at the Lindo Wing and specialises in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions that can arise during this time, such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar affective disorder. Sarah shares the signs to be aware of for mental health disorders and how our collaborative approach is at the heart of perinatal care. “The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the resilience and strength of the women and people I work with. Supporting them through difficult periods and seeing them bond with their babies is incredibly fulfilling. “I was drawn to this field because of my interest in both mental health and maternal well-being. The perinatal period is such a crucial time for both mother and baby and I wanted to help families navigate that, particularly when they face mental health challenges.” Read more about Sarah Taha’s work and our perinatal mental health service: https://lnkd.in/eHDUrKwz #AntenatalCare #PregnancyCare #MaternalMentalHealth

About us
We are Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England. Our more than 15,000 staff provide acute and specialist care for over 1.3 million patients a year from our five hospitals in west London – St Mary’s, Hammersmith, Charing Cross, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea and Western Eye. We also offer private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all our sites. With our academic partner Imperial College London, we run the NHS’s biggest biomedical research centre, translating research breakthroughs into new diagnostics and treatments. This builds on our hospitals’ long track record of innovation, benefiting our local communities as well as patients around the world. We are also a major provider of education and training for doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. We came together in a formal partnership with our three neighbouring acute trusts in 2022 to form the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, to make the most effective use of our collective resources to provide better care, for more people, more fairly. We live by our values of being kind, expert, collaborative and aspirational and as well as our vision of better health, for life. Our Trust is a place where you can truly be yourself, whatever your background. We offer a wide range of career paths as well as opportunities to learn and develop, allowing you to achieve your best and make a real impact for patients and local communities. “Those with a story to tell should tell it themselves. I have many more stories to tell, especially of the generation before ours who paved the way. "I honour my roots by growing my own Trinidadian hot peppers - Moruga Scorpion - I make pepper sauce and give some to my Caribbean colleagues and I listen to old style Calypso music such as Sparrow and Kitchener.” In honour of Black History Month 2024 and this year’s theme of ‘reclaiming narratives’, Head of the Centre for Vestibular Neurology, Barry Seemungal, shares his narrative about his Caribbean heritage, his influences and inspirations ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ewYjunSx #ImperialBHM2024 #BHM2024 #ReclaimingNarratives #BlackHistoryMonth #ImperialPeople

Our work to improve the experience of end of life care at our hospitals for adult inpatients and those supporting them was recently recognised at the national #PENNA24 awards, which celebrate excellence in patient experience. We came second place in two categories for a project run by our end of life care and user insights teams in 2023, to better understand the experiences of people dying in our hospitals, in order to develop and test practical solutions to improve these experiences. The project was funded by our charity partner Imperial Health Charity 💙 and supported by Helix Centre. Congratulations to the teams who worked on this project and huge thanks to all those who contributed their insights. By listening to a variety of voices and working together across teams, we will continue to make important changes that improve how we support people at the end of their lives. #HealthcareandDesign #PatientCentredCare

Hundreds of babies have begun to be tested for over 200 rare genetic conditions as part of a world-leading study in NHS hospitals ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ers7Z-Fr We are proud that Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital is among the first NHS sites to open as part of the Generation Study, led by Genomics England in partnership with NHS England. Lianne Chapman, clinical research midwife, who leads the study at our Trust said: “Rare genetic conditions can have a significant impact on families and whole genome sequencing has potential to improve lives by providing clinical teams with a chance to treat, and sometimes even prevent, the diseases from deteriorating. “We will support families to provide a sample of their baby’s cord blood at birth, which is safe and risk-free for both mother and baby, that may provide key information about their health, now and beyond the study.” #Genomics #GeneticConditions #GenerationStudy #Research
