Impetus - Backing the best

It’s been an inspiring three days at Orbit Partners! Last week, young people aged 16-18 and interested in consulting, private equity and business, were offered paid work experience to enhance their career skills and learn more about the sector. The young people applied for the experience through our portfolio partners Ada, the National College for Digital Skills and IntoUniversity, who guided them throughout the process. Each participant was matched with a “buddy” who guided them on conducting sector research, facilitated workshops, and served as a mentor. The workshop sessions covered CV writing, interview skills, and presentation techniques – which the young people put to use in the presentations they gave to senior leaders, on the final day of the work experience! A huge thanks to the team at Orbit for creating such a valuable opportunity, and to the young people for their enthusiasm and engagement!

November is #CareerDevelopmentMonth! Alongside our work with our portfolio partners to support young people into sustainable employment, back in 2021 we collaborated with Resurgo, West Midlands Combined Authority, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) & Library of Birmingham, running a theory of change process to support one of the country's flagship Youth Hubs to co-design their new service to best serve young people. This was the first time Impetus applied its theory of change tools, and its impact focus to a government policy initiative. The output of the work provided a blueprint for what a youth hub should look like and in turn offered a framework and best practices to be rolled out at other youth hubs across the country. Good news from #Budget2024: The Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves has pledged “eight Youth Guarantee Trailblazer areas to test new ways of supporting young people into employment or training”, by building on existing programmes in partnership with local areas.   As co-chairs of the Youth Employment Group, we’re thrilled to see the government begin the process of delivering a Youth Guarantee. This is something we, alongside the Institute for Employment Studies, the Learning and Work Institute, The King's Trust, Youth Employment UK and the Youth Futures Foundation called for in "The Young Person’s Guarantee", a paper we published last year in a bid to reduce unemployment and protect the life chances of young people.   Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ekkakdQH
