Promoting social mobility and diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths.
About us
In2scienceUK is an award winning organisation which gives students from low income backgrounds the opportunity to work alongside STEM scientists, and receive the advice and information they need to progress to University and STEM careers. In2ScienceUK was founded in 2010 by Rebecca McKelvey, who aimed to provide young people from low income backgrounds an opportunity to gain practical insight into the STEM sector as well as the knowledge and confidence to progress to University. Each year in2scienceUK receives over 1000 student applications and aims to expand across the UK in the next 5 years . The programme operates a robust evaluation process to assess the impact of the programme. To date, 75% of participants progress onto STEM degrees. This is something we are proud of, as we are not a G&T programme and aim to take students of all levels studying STEM subjects.

We’re thrilled to see Uptake reach the halfway point of their Uptake1000 goal, as they are actively educating and inspiring 500 young people in to careers in the pharma and biotech industry. We share this same commitment to empowering the next generation of STEM professionals, and our partnership with Uptake has allowed us to create valuable connections between students and industry leaders, opening doors to exciting opportunities in research and beyond. We're incredibly grateful for this partnership, and would like to thank Stephanie Hall & Luke Mckelvey for their support in continuing this collaboration. Best of luck to the next 500 young minds ready to learn about the pharma and biotech industry, and join this growing community. #In2scienceUK #STEMcareers #Pharma #Biotech

This week we reached the half way point of our Uptake1000 goal - successfully educating, inspiring and supporting 500 young people to begin their careers in the pharma and biotech industry! I launched Uptake1000 in 2019, as part of our mission to be a global force for growth and to inspire the next generation of industry professionals to begin their pharma and biotech careers. These pictures are from career talks and events with university level students, schools, the Uptake internship and graduate programme, and our partnership with In2scienceUK. I have had the best time talking to young people about their love of science and sharing with them all the opportunities in pharma research, the pharma industry and consulting! Thanks to so many of the Uptake team who have planned and delivered these events and stay in touch with this growing community. Here's to the next 500 in the coming months and years! #Pharma #Biotech #Pharmacareers #STEM #STEMcareers #In2scienceUK

Wow 14 year old me would have been so proud; presenting my research at New Scientist Live this weekend has been an amazing opportunity! Over the summer, I was fortunate to be able to work with Pete Culmer and Zahrina Mardina on the Circular Economy of Medical Devices at the University of Leeds. During this internship, I was looking specifically at the material life cycle of single use compared to reusable surgical gowns as well as finding sustainable packaging suitable for UV-C sterilisation. I developed a lot of confidence in my scientific ability which will undoubtedly support me in completing the remaining years of my integrated masters degree. Peter and Zahrina were so supportive and eager to help me further my skills and I'm grateful for the time they put into my internship. Now, thanks to In2scienceUK, I was able to share my findings at New Scientist Live. This was a fantastic opportunity to improve my communication skills and make connections. In2scienceUK is an amazing charity that aims to improve social mobility in STEM and give young people insights into STEM careers. I hope students that visited our stand were inspired like I was to explore science roles!
